MBA in English - Malaysia / Southeast Asia

Hello everybody!

I am researching MBA programs, and seeing if anybody can answer my questions.

I am American (back in the US for Thanksgiving at the moment!) who has been living in Kuala Lumpur teaching English for the past three years. I am comfortable there and plan to stay indefinitely but I am also very interested in doing an MBA hopefully alongside my day to day work if possible.

I'm strongly considering Universiti Malaya, as they offer an MBA in English. But I am also open to other programs as I have a bit of flexibility. Although I would like to stay in Southeast Asia (I'd rather like to avoid Singapore due to cost of living concerns).

The other option is potentially to do an Online program but this is less interesting for me.

I would appreciate any guidance! Happy Thanksgiving!

If you are in KL then isn't Nottingham the obvious choice?

What are your goals? The Malaya program would be good if you plan on staying in the country and connecting with business people there. The Nottingham program as Duncan mentioned is also good, and probably has a better reputation internationally.

Nottingham, maybe. My goals are to build up my knowledge of business and learn more about the marketing and analytics aspects. Eventually, I will return to the US.

If you are considering a return to the US, then I would rule out UM. Nottingham is the obvious option in KL, in the way that the Henley MBA is in Iskandar. The Asian School of Business is the only local option even worth considering if Singapore is out of the running.

Would Strathclyde and Edinburgh work equally fine too?

It's probably one of the better (domestic) MBAs in Malaysia and indeed the region. It would probably be a great place to network if you're planning on staying put. The question is, how does its network compare to those of the other options (Putra, plus the international offerings like Nottingham)? Try to do some research and see if there's any trends among firms / industries you're interested in and which b-schools they recruit from.
