Should I pursue an eMBA/online MBA/MBA/Ex-program?

I am in my early 40s, with 15 years of IT experience. Currently serving as an engineering director in a midsize product startup in India. I am managing a team of 20-30 engineers/managers and handling a product portfolio worth 50 million USD. My overall yearly compensation is close to 10 million (1Cr) INR.

My academic grades were not good. My graduation average is 2.87 on 4 point GPA scale. I want to grow to a CTO role (in a midsized company =1B$ valuation) in the next 5 years. Should I take up an eMBA or similar other options? What are some programs I should consider?

What program will give a better ROI? What growth should I expect from the program?

Please note, that I am not looking to change my track. I am planning my future employment in India, but I am open to moving to Singapore or Australia if It is sufficiently rewarding and helps me to build and solidify my financial base in the new country over a period next 10 years.

If you want to be a CTO as opposed to a CIO which is typically the most senior business facing IT role then I'd challenge whether a generalist management degree like an MBA is what you really need.

Have a look at the year long online Berkeley CTO programme for a good flavour of the kinds of skills you might need to step up to a CTO role with its emphasis on innovation, leading change and strategy.

I'm not sure if the Berkeley program is continuing but Cambridge Judge has a similarly designed programme

You might be right - there are no enrolment dates currently showing on the Berkeley course. Both the Cambridge and Berkeley courses look like they are/were delivered in conjunction with Emeritus. They have a US based CTO programme in partnership with Wharton now which looks similar to the Cambridge course.

If choosing a course with Emeritus, make sure you're clear if it's a course delivered by the university or if it's 'By Emeritus In Collaboration With' a specific university. I've heard some good reviews of the latter type of course but it is likely a quite different experience.

One advantage of the Cambridge Judge course is that you gain associate alumni status of the business school, with direct access to their alumni portal and network. Wharton's CTO program's 'pathway' to alumni status is ridiculous: you need to spend $70,000 more to get status.
