Rutgers tried to open their EMBA a few years back without much success. Their program were discontinued and students had to go to China or USA to continue the study or risk losing their investment and not able to complete the degree.

This is something a lot of future candidates will have to seriously consider before putting in their application

For clarification, Rutgers had partnered with an institution in 2008/9 and had 2 successful intakes with over 35 students per intake. There was a change in the corporate direction and since 2010, Rutgers has set up the regional office in Singapore. The operation is now solely managed under the directives of the university. Students from the earlier cohorts completed the program in Singapore and had the option to complete it either in China or the US if they wish to.

An intake has begun since February 2012 and recruitment for the 2013 February is underway.

The institution responsible for Rutgers' successful intakes in 2008/9 is now running Temple University's Singapore EMBA program (www.ieec.edu.sg/emba). It's also relevant to note that Rutgers in China (Shanghai and Beijing) has also been recently shut down.

This is something I forgot to mention. The same people who run Rutgers programme which was a failure now run another Temple EMBA unless Temple clarified otherwise.

It rare to see a representative (JennWood) from a competing school making remarks in another school's thread...probably the first that I have seen from the threads in this forum. Kinda unethical don't you think?

Donho199, from your posts, it seems you are out to write off both Temple and Rutgers program. Your choice of word in the remark above "failure" is quite different from my understanding of 'failure". 35 students for a class is a good size by most standards. Most of my friends attending reputable MBA programs have between 20 to 25 students.

Just out of curiosity, have you studied the Temple or Rutgers program before?

I am also considering either one of these 2 programs and would like to hear a third party's feedback.

Speaking as a local brought up in an Asian dominated society, I am certain many will agree on the same for unwritten rule of mutual respect be it on a personal or professional level. Perhaps for non Asians, the mindset and values are entirely different.

I am very glad that RutgersEMBASG has not done the same to 'hijack' another university's thread to promote their own program. They have earned my respect for that!

I visited China's website and enquired on the post by jennwood. The EMBA program is put on hold while they are undergoing a strategy change. They are not shutting down as mentioned.

Anyway, this discussion has certainly enlightened me on some of the issues I need to consider in terms of selecting an institution with the right values and culture apart from the quality of the program, fees, duration etc etc.

I addressed the question of the institution who managed the successful 2008/9 intake. I put my real name as my username and listed in my profile that I'm an EMBA student at Temple and I work for IEEC. Hijacking would be creating a new user account to anonymously post. Any person making the important decision on which EMBA is right for him/her will do thorough research and ask important questions before proceeding. I encourage people to talk to both Temple and Rutgers. Both schools will be at the QS MBA Fair on November 17.

Hiijacking would be taking someone captive and taking them somewhere. Let's keep a sense of perspective ;-)

This isn't entirely true - Rutgers still offers EMBAs in Shanghai and Beijing, but the one in Beijing is now a dual degree program, according to the Rutgers in Asia website:

And the admission cycle for the 2013 EDP/EMBA cohort in Beijing just closed in August, so that one is still on as well.
