I am currently admitted to NUS MBA but also waiting for the result from SMU(Singapore management University).
SMU is starting MBA course this year. I like the fact that SMU MBA has shorter period and smaller class size, but in terms of future perspective I am not sure which MBA is better...
I want to change my career into finance.

SMU, though launched with a lot of hype has yet to prove itself... It's 1 year programme but costlier than NUS MBA... Only time will tell the worth of money they plan to chanrge :-)

It is difficult to tell if SMU's MBA would be as good as its bachelor programmes because the MBA programme has just been launched.

A MBA programme can only get into relevant and reputable MBA rankings after 3 years of its launch. In other words, the MBA rankings of SMU would only be released by 2011 the earliest. As a result, if you are looking for a career in Europe or America after your MBA programme of SMU, it is difficult for your potential recruiters to know your school because there are no track records of the MBA programme, no previous MBAs have worked for them before, and cannot leverage on your MBA alumni for assistance in recruitment.

On the other hand, NUS and NTU does offer very good MBA programme and they also ranked highly internationally, especially if you intend to work in the Asia Pacific Region upon your graduation.

Rankings are definitely important but they are not the only factor that determine the reputation of a school. SMU, being the one Singapore university focused on business and management training, does have strong ties with the business community, a solid reputation for its graduates, and a growing international presence. While the programme is young, some have noticed its potential. The new Dean of the business school, Howard Thomas, was formerly Dean of Warwick Business School and SMU's next president, Arnoud de Meyer, is the currently Dean of Judge Business School (Cambridge).

Everyone University has its merits. SMU is one of the newest University in Singapore. It just celebrated its 10th anniversary last year, I think. From what I heard from my HR friends, the graduates are heads and shoulders from the other local Universities. I cant see any better judge of quality than the graduates it produce. Any company with a good product is definitely a well managed one. I suggest doing your own research on their programs.

Two batches have graduated from SMU MBA and from what I have heard the placements at SMU last year were on average better than NUS and NTU. This could be because the SMU batch has more average experience (6-8 years) and also that SMU has strong industry links (with many courses being taught by industry leaders) which allows them to get students placed in high profiles companies.
