Much of what we see and hear are not the exact truth. There hadn't been attacks on University students, nowhere.
However, that's a debatable issue. I'd say it's safe as long as you are in a good University and you are not planning to work late nights for part time income.
These kind of issues are common in many countries. The trick is to stay away from trouble and not travel alone during wee hours.

I'm not sure that's true. I just read about an MBA student in Australia, Mayank Sharma, who was attacked twice in the course of studying for his degree.

This, I can agree with. Tensions are virtually everywhere, and I think the media has magnified the situation in Australia to be more frightening than it actually is. The key is, like everywhere, to use common sense.

I didn't hear about the MBA student before. That is very unfortunate.
I'm an Indian living in the United States and fortunately have always met people who are very warm and friendly, even when the country was deep down in recession.
But that doesn't guarantee that everyone will have the same experience. Much before the recession broke loose, there were a couple of shoot and kill incidents taking toll on Indian student lives.
Though such incidents are true everywhere I doubt if it happens selectively on Indians only, as it is happening in Australia right now, as per the media.
Frankly, however, if I were offered a position in an Australian B school at this point, I'd have some serious apprehensions

Will Canada be better place than Australia and New zealand in terms of job prospectus and salary?

Yes, I think so. But would be a whole lot costlier as well. But Canada schools are cheaper than those in US.

I strongly believe that picking the right MBA school is extremely important. To truly make the most of the experience and to learn the most you can possibly learn - you need one that is suited for you. Racial discrimination is an extremely important issue but I urge you to research it a bit more before you let that be your deciding factor of ruling a top MBA school out. I've actually heard really great things about AGSM and their teaching styles.
