ESADE vs ESCP

Hi All,

I have a GMAT score of 710 and have 3 years of work experience.

I am looking at doing a Msc in Marketing from Europe and then plan to gain some work ex,in Europe, post completion of the program.

I have received an offer from ESADE (Msc Marketing Management) for September 2019 intake. I am in the process of applying to ESCP (Msc in Marketing and Creativity) for January 2020 intake. I personally like the program at ESCP more than ESADE. However I am not sure which is a better university in terms of international exposure and placements. (Want to get into the marketing team of a FMCG / consumer durables firm)

Need your help to make the right choice.

* I have to pay the reservation amount to ESADE by 1st June.

What languages do you already speak? ESADE's core MiM program has better international mobility stats than ESCP's, but international mobility for marketing roles might be a bit tougher in general, especially in regards to the language dimension.

If you already speak Spanish then ESADE might be a good option. If you don't speak French then the London-based version of the ESCP program (versus Paris) might be a good option because that would put on on the ground in an English-speaking country.

Currently, I do not speak either Spanish or French. Depending upon which country I end up going to, I will start learning the local language.

The ESCP programme sounds better for you. Marketing requires great linguistic fluency, which you won't almost certainly have in French or Spanish by the time you graduate. Part of the ESCP programme is in the UK and you could take an internship there. Furthermore, straight from a degree you are likely to be in an operational told rather than a ideation role. ESCP has more financial and operational elements to the degree. Finally 18 month gives you more time to learn French. Learning Spanish is a little harder in a Catalan speaking city than French is in a French speaking city.

But, of course, I have to ask why you are not looking at UK or Irish schools. Cranfield has a successful MSc in Marketing and Management which would be a better fit for you. UCD has an excellent MSc in marketing practice, with a spectacular design. Degrees in marketing analysis and analytics, like the one here at the University of Edinburgh, are in strong demand.

PS if advertising is your focus, also consider Norwich Business School and the MSc in innovation at Central St Martins.

Depending on your career goals, you may also want to consider a ranked MSc in Management from a UK school (ESCP London's is great, for example.) It's a more general degree to be sure but would most likely provide for more flexibility in terms of career outcomes, as well as improved international mobility (that is, if you are targeting the UK, which I think you should given you language situation.)
