while searching for a 1 yr international mba I came across hult Business school and from the reviews what i have read yet..I am not able to judge if it's worth going for.

Those are impressive salary figures (although they are not, in fact, the ones claimed on either FT or Economist websites). For a school with an average GMAT of 615 (http://www.economist.com/whichmba/hult-international-business-school/2012) it's a creditable outcome. However, that salary still leaves Hult in the bottom half of the top 100 schools. This candidate has a much higher GMAT - 740 rather than 615 - and can do better than Hult.

PS That is especially the case if the candidate is targeting Accenture in the UK. I'm not sure Hult has any alumni there, but certainly it has nothing like the network of the schools I recommended above.

PPS RoI isn't the key metric. Imagine: Stanford salary of 194,645 has tuition of around $120k (1.62 to 1 RoI ratio). Hult is 112,520 for 65,800 (1.7 to 1 RoI ratio). But even if we assume the wage gap does not widen (which it does) over a 40 year career, the extra investment of 55k plus opportunity costs produces at least an extra $3,285,000 in income. The Nett Present Value of the two options is very different. I imagine that even at Hult they teach the superiority of NPV to RoI.

Just to clarify the salary figures, the average salary 3 months after graduation is the most up-to-date statistic from our 2012 graduating class, which we published in the last month. This is the figure used by The Economist in their rankings. The Financial Times use statistics from our 2009 class, hence the different values.

I can't see anything wrong in you citing different numbers but, of course, you should attribute them to the correct source.

I don't know about that. Compared to these schools (and a few others in your list) - Hult has maintained a much stronger position in the FT rankings. Not that I'd use this as the sole determinant, but the rankings should be considered.

If the other person's goal was to attend a highly ranked school then perhaps Hult would be better than Henley or Strathclyde. We have to remember that Hult is a US school with shallow roots in the UK: it opened in 2009 and has no notable alumni network in any UK business (less than 10% of its alumni are here). On a global basis, there are no large scale hirers from Hult other than EF group which includes Hult itself, (e.g. out of 3,228 Hult alumni in LinkedIn, 425 list Hult as their employer and then the next largest country cluster is IBM with six alumni in the US). That is not a traditional MBA hiring pool. The largest single function for Hult alumni is business development: not this person's specialisation.

If this person wants to move to work in the UK via a one year MBA (and thus stay in a similar role, since also change role or industry would require a longer programme with a summer internship and a concentration) then the best choices are the schools I put stars on. If you look at Accenture (the most obvious place, since the other person works there), Hult doesn't have a foothold there in the UK. Henley and Strathclyde do, and they have great careers services in the UK.

Idream, we had similar profiles when I went to Hult a couple years ago.

-In general, we had the same thoughts of wanting returns on our effort and therefore wanting to wrap it up in 1 year. I'm wondering if you might benefit from significantly more energy invested in understanding exactly what you want from business education. Like until you have 3 or 4 very specific things you want to learn and have a plan for how they will help you achieve your professional goals. Maybe you have all this--wasn't clear from your post.

-Looking at an MBA degree from any school like a capital budgeting project doesn't really make sense. The future cash flow is impossible to predict. It depends mostly but not entirely on your own preparation and diligence. Your salary once you graduate will help determine the average salary of your B school, not the other way around

-If you are unconvinced, then for heaven's sake, work with the denominator. Find the cheapest MBA program that will get you out of India. You can get a full-time classroom MBA with very solid business instruction for about $7,000. Some of the cheapest classroom MBAs will probably give you the greatest return as not a fraction, but a multiple of your investment.

-While my only Henley alumn acquaintance literally has the greatest business mind of anybody I know, I think JK has shown great diligence in pointing out some very relevant facts that paint too vague a context for decisionmaking.

-I went to Hult career services with a specific agenda of what I wanted them to help me work on, and they were tremendously helpful. You want to learn how to make money while you're in business school? Worrying about career services getting you a job is not the way. Get out and meet some dealmakers.

-JK, we talked about just about every return metric that exists at Hult and how to think in terms of each one. Then we went around the room and talked about investment climate and culture in several countries. In my job I use what I learned at Hult every single day, including things I didn't know I needed to learn--where you get the most value vs. independent study.

I think Joshua makes a good point, but there's one thing to look over: what is the impact of strong careers services and a powerful alumni network. I appreciate that it's important to teach students to be self-starters when they look for work. At Hult's that's even more important because it lacks those things in the UK.

But please imagine that is it a competitive advantage at the big UK business schools. It would be much easier for this person to get into Accenture in the UK from LBS, Warwick, Cambridge, Imperial, Cranfield, Manchester etc than from Hult - not only because those schools have strong alumni networks and dedicated hiring contacts within those firms but also because of higher quality.

PS For example, I was at a vibrant and up-beat recruitment mixer on Thursday organised by Manchester Business School in London: 350 people, or or less evenly mixed between MBAs, MBA alumni and MBA recruiters. I met the consultant at one of the biggest European IT/MC firms responsible for hiring MBAs, and he's an MBA alumnus of MBS. There are several major UK business schools have those relationships here, and that network effect, and it multiplies the efforts of the students. That is a factor to consider if your target is larger firms which, for example, are more likely to sponsor visas.

VISAs: Strong point about larger firms sponsoring visas. For the UK, I think Tier 1 Entrepreneur visa is the way to go, at least if you are going to be in London. If you start putting a plan together your MBA program, an Accenture salary in London is one of the worst ways to recapitalize it. To my knowledge everybody from my year who wanted to work at Accenture is doing so. I know we've got one in Manchester and another in India, and maybe a couple more from the other masters programs. And as a segue, if Idream already works at Accenture, could lack of alumni network be a limiting factor in his working for Accenture in another country? If so, then Hult is probably not a school I would recommend.

"NETWORK": JK: at that mixer I'm assuming there were some people talking and meeting people, and other people hiding in the corner drinking, right?

Let's look at the impact and nature of these networks. I went to an undergraduate school with one of the best alumni "networks" if you wanted to work in a major US city. I think this is absolutely a factor and possibly significant. If this is a very important factor then you're in trouble.

You will meet plenty of people from your school and have an immediate mutual interest in talking to each other. You will meet plenty who stare at you and sweat like MJ in Thriller.
I've never had trouble meeting and talking to someone who went to another school as me. I enjoy learning about where they went to school, and they usually enjoy telling me about it.

I will take some time on my Saturday to type this out to let you know that through Hult I connected with a great number of people who would have sponsored me for a visa if it made sense to. All of our students were invited to meet and hang out with some of the best students from pretty much every top MBA program in Europe who came to our case competition. I will say that Hult has plenty of students and is staffed from top to bottom with people who are extremely well-connected. These people personally made every introduction that made sense. I ended up getting a job outside of Hult connections but in as good of a situation as would have happened had I gone pretty much anywhere. Again, I use skills I learned at Hult every day. I could neither have gotten it nor perform it without these skills.

The most important thing is you. Most business schools have a pretty wide variety of people who achieve a wide variety of outcomes. This is a good thing as you want diversity in your class.

This is way too important of a decision to base too much on averages or generalities. I'm sure JK and I would agree to definitely consider the above factors as part of a specific and comprehensive plan.

I rotated to London, somewhere I had never imagined I would go, so it was really an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I gained insight into a culture I knew nothing about and gained a lot of confidence from living in a new city for a couple of months and really feeling that it had become like a new home for me.
Rotating to London was just phenomenal?it made my MBA experience unforgettable.

There is no suggestion for Hult from my side, I am completely satisfied.

My Experience with Hult

I'm totally unaware regarding how to start from. Allow me to just let you know my Hult story to date. Initially, when i first visited the Bay Area Hult Campus, I had been just okay by using it. The atmosphere, the approach of Hult Staff, the dwelling of the college was modern in the approach and it wasn't things I had expected. My School campus looked corporate in character. However, I recognized, Hult is really a business school, distinguishes itself like a modern Business School.

Because the days passed beyond the tool box, I acquired towards my MFIN class I'd still not reeled from my lousy way of thinking concerning the Hult Family and also the course since i was still being engaging in the rhythm of the town, Bay Area.
