Good point. Reasoning for MS Big Data @ IE :
- 10 months prog (that's perfect for me, less time out of work)
- In terms of content and industry involvement, Big Data program at IE Spain is comparable to the best in US such as MS Analytics at North Carolina or that of Northwestern.
- includes 'Big Data start up', IE is famous for entrepreuership, could possibly be a good ground to start a company.
- Internship opportunity - MCcKinsey, Bain & Co, Google, Amazon etc .and several banks lined up already to pick Big Data candidates.
- Suitable for high exp candidates aswell. (0-8 yrs) .
- low investment 23000 ? and possibility for obtaining 30% scholarship
- strong alumni in UK

Hence, found the Big Data program just perfect but not sure if it can beat an MBA....given that i am focused on moving into leadership roles in Business Analytics/ Big Data ....and can later go for a Sloan program at LBS, 3-4 years down the line.

I just can't see how this can really help you in the UK.

I presume most of the multinational companies that recruit from this program could provide work or have a need for big data professionals in UK. If not then I could work on short or long term consulting assignments at hourly rates as i do today in Sweden.

But if you know of similar programs in UK then that would be very good to know.

Europe is a profoundly national labour market. Firms looking for staff in the UK will hire in the UK. I imagine that roles like these will go to experienced hires rather than to MBA graduates.

Will my prior 12+ yrs of experience in Telecom and management background backed by the newly acquired big data/analytics skills not make it easier ?

If they are not coming to IE for UK hires then no, obviously not. If you need a degree for the role then take it in Britain if you want to work there.

From the job postings I've seen for management positions in this domain, companies tend to value technical experience in the field (I'm talking years - much more than just internship-level experience) and even a degree in a field like computer science or math. I think a specialized masters degree in the management of analytics might be more valuable for people who are at the beginning of their careers and who plan on working in a more technical position before moving on to management.

That said, I would think that a full-time MBA program in the UK - maybe coupled with a consulting project in the domain - would generally give you much more leverage if you want to work in the country. Ranked schools like LBS/Cambridge/Oxford are better, of course.

I want to add my opinion, as I went through a long search on Masters of Data analysis, as I wanted to join one the program of data analysis in Lancaster University in UK, but now I can't afford it financially.. So My opinion is that First of all I see that the Msc degree in data analytics in Uk is way much stronger in terms of the academic cirriculam, internship or graduation project with international well known companies and finally the technical side from what I read for example the Msc of data analytics in Lancaster University in UK provides an opportunity after graduation for students with strong analysis capabilities to have internship in SAS and also they teach R program, while IE only teaches data analysis using SPSS (which I believe as per your long experience, you are familiar with). from what I read is that you are interested in IE program as It is only 10 months, well almost all the programs in UK are 1 year which is only 2 months more than IE !
Also you want to work in UK, so I believe that Masters degree from UK will make much sense, you can find a lot of universities in UK that introduces this masters program (ex Lancaster, Manchester, Warwick...etc). Finally I have 2 friends who went to the program in IE 1 year ago, I saw that the MSc degree actually didn't help them that much, as it should do, well one of them returened to her old job without any difference and the other she joined the program to shift her career to consultancy and market research but she didn't till now, I know it differs from person to another but for me I wasn't encouraged at all by the program, as actually i was going to apply for it, but I will apply for it or a program in UK or Belgium, Gent University which also offers a very good program in Market research, but after finishing my MBA !! and that's what i reached to after months of search for program in Market analysis ... Yes it is, very strong program and not anyone can be accepted, as per the website, you take an exam from the university and they are writing that a very small percentage of people who admit receive acceptance !!!!
