Request Help: Copenhagen v. Mannheim v. Solvay v. Emlyon

Hi All,

I am a current student on the MSc Management (MIM) course at the Warwick Business School, UK. As per the couse structure I don't have any lectures in the summer (i.e. June'10 onwards)...of course I need to work on my dissertation but I need not have any physical connection with the business school after June 2nd week...this has been specifically designed so that people can take up interships or summer schools.

I have applied for some internships but I am yet to receive reply from the companies. Internships are my top priority but just in case if I don't get any and had to start a job after graduation only I will waste the summer doning only dissertation which is not at all an proper utilization of time.

Hence I have decided to apply for summer schools so that I can learn as well as enhance my profile even though if I dont get an Internship. Following the places I have in mind:

1. Copenhagen Business School, Denmark
2. Mannheim Business School, Germany
3. Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management, Belgium
4. EMLYON Business School, France

My knowledge regarding Universities/S Schools is horribly concentrated within the UK only....Would appreciate if someone having good knowlege on mainland European business schools throws some light on the "education quality" regarding the above mentioned institutions so that I can make a good decision.

Suggestion of any Institution other than the mentioned 4 is also welcome!

Ah..the situation gone topsy-turvy today!

Received an offer to do summer school at the University of Chicago (Booth B School)...needless to say, I am horribly in favour of going to USA over mainland Europe.

But I am still listening...cost and experience are important factors and your comments/advices do matter...

Um yes, I would go to Chicago. Mannheim in Germany would be my fallback choice because they are kind of emerging as one of the top players in continental Europe. I've heard good things about the other schools you mentioned (quality-wise) though cost of living will be factor if you spend your summer in Copenhagen and probably Brussels. I can't say much about Lyon.

You are absolutely right. Chicago must and is my numero uno choice...but its the cost factor that hurts me a great deal...$6000 is way too much for 3 weeks...its more than even Harvard...I am still thinking since $6K is not all, indirect cost like flight and visa fees are also to be taken into account.

Emlyon is my second choice...superb school in Europe...followed by Solvay and Copenhagen...the later two are in fact lesser known in Europe.

Mannheim is a great school but I refuse to give in to the glamour...the structure of the summer program of Mannheim looks like a holiday schedule...I am not gonna pay money for 'wine tasting event' at a business school!! So I have put Mannheim out of my list.
