I think this is probably true for most places as well - and probably pretty appropriate - especially in France. A huge majority of the internships opportunites that ESSEC offers each year are in France - a country whose business is done in French. I don't think it's too much to ask for the students to at least learn the language.

Yesterday I visited ESSEC and CNAM, two Paris-region 'grande ecoles' with one-year AMBA-accredited MBA programmes. What really impressed me at CNAM was that foreign students (in particular I think the ones from Asia) all have some French before they arrive and also weekly business French lessons through the three timesters of the taught courses. On Fridays, when the part-time students some in to CNAM, they share some classes with the full-time students. That's also a very useful way of helping students to start to develop their soft skills for working with French managers.

Essec is very expensive (for global MBA it's 45000e... and doesn't even appear in mba ranking). Any reason? I exchanged some emails with them... they told me that my profile suits their requirements but when I asked for placement stats ... surprise... no more answers!!!!! :-)

It's strong school in France, and I wonder why it's not in the FT rankings -- maybe not enough students?

ESSEC is one of the top two grande ecoles for management (alongside HEC - http://www.essec.edu/press/rankings/national-rankings.html) and the FT always ranks it in the top 15 European schools (http://rankings.ft.com/businessschoolrankings/essec-business-school/european-business-school-rankings-2010#european-business-school-rankings-2010). The ESSEC-Mannheim EMBA is in the top 25, I think. BusinessWeek ranks it, alphabetically, in the top 23 European programmes (http://images.businessweek.com/ss/10/03/0317_top_europe_business_schools/5.htm)

if i understand the rankings correctly, its the EMBA of essec that's rated.

Not the full time MBA.

The Business Week ranking is a ranking of full-time MBAs, and ESSEC is in that.
