Hello to everybody,
I took the gmat just few minutes ago, that was the first time i took the test and my score was just 640...
I would like to apply for some master of science in management (not mba but msc)
I am 23 years old with almost no work experience, just few months of internship in the innovation and entrepreneurship office at the university where I am currently in exchange.
A bit more about me:
I am Italian,
2008: bachelor, 110/110 cum laude
expected graduation date (I am currently following a master in Italy september 2010)
Gmat 640
toefl 109 internet based
i got 4 scholarship linked to merit (linked to good grades i got at university) one for each of the last 4 years
I have been studying abroad as exchange student in sweden for 6 months and I am currently doing my whole last year in Singapore at the Singapore Management University.
I would like to apply for the master of science offered by some top b-school such as:
London Business school
Ie
Essec
Grenoble
Hec
city university london
do you think I have any chance to get into one of those universities? and If yes, in which one?
thanks a lot
Marco

I really hope so...
I am also applying for Warwick, they have a MSc in Business analytics and consulting which I found very appealing (since I would like to pursue a career in consulting). Has anybody heard about this program?

Warwick is famous for its curriculum if you want to have Consultancy career. However, I heard that its courses are too academic.
HEC if you want to do marketing or luxury brand management. Which I think fits you because you're italian (usually italian has good taste in men clothing).
If you study in HEC, you'll meet future leaders of France.
City U in london would be best if you want to study Finance.
I heard that the school promotes heavy networking with the bankers in the financial district.
IE is great for Enterpreneurship because it has the best platform for it, I know that the school guides the students to do a proper business plan then all of them pitch to the Private Equity/Venture capitalist in madrid/barcelona. And if the business plan is a success, once you graduate, you'll be given millions of Euro to build your first empire.
Note that above comments are my own, you should do your own research to validate them.

Nice reply rhino.Informative and true. Does Cass MSc General management stress on Finance courses?. Any idea..Since I am from Non-business bachelors, there are high chances of me getting into MSc Management rather than MSc finance. Many MSc finance courses require relevant bachelors. My real interest is towards finance and t last option is MSc Management. Can you just throw some light on these courses esp MSc Finance for non-business bachelors students and MSc Management courses which stresses more on finance?

Thanks for the answer, basically you confirmed what are my thoughts on the various school.
I know that Warwick is a bit on the "theoretical" side but I believe that a MSc as the one they offer in consulting must be practical, at least a bit....
Besides that I am applying also for LSE (I think it will be really, really hard to get into this or LBS)...

LSE is tougher to get in compared to LBS. All the best. If you can make it to LSE there are high chances that you will make it to LBS. Moreover can you name the course you applied in Grenoble?.If its MIB,did you hear anything about its job prospects?.

At the end I decided to not apply for the course in Grenoble since I saw that it is two years and I don't want to spend other two years studying, besides that I would also prefer to work in Uk.... that's why i decided to don't apply for it.
I am applying/going to apply for:
LSE
LBS
Warwick
IE
Esade
Essec
Cass
HEC
I hope to enter in one of those... wish me luck ;)

Ya. You will surely get the best in the list (HEC,LSE,LBS,CASS).May I know your Bachelor degree?. If its from Business related field then why MSc Management (designed for non-business graduates like me)?. Just let me know your profile in short. Bachelor degree, Univ name, Field you are interested in (Finance/HRM.Marketing etc).I missed out the deadline for HEC since I didnt give my GMAT:(. As of now I applied to UCD Smurfit,Cass, Aston, Stockholm school of economics. LSE application will be finished in few days. We are in the same boat:)

My bachelor is in Business and Economics, you are right about the MSc in management being targeted more to non business graduates but since I would like to work in consulting (maybe BCG, Mckinsey etc...) I feel that a degree from my current university (is a small university in italy) may not be enough. Plus I would like to work outside italy. Those are the main reasons why i decided to apply for these MSc. I am a bit behind with the applications since I am still waiting for my reference letters....
good luck for your applications.
do let me know how it goes :)
