Do people work in finance after an MBA?

I'm thinking about doing an MBA and one of the big things in the consideration process for me has been to consider my long term career goals.

I have decided that I am very interested in a finance career. I did an internship in a financial services company while at university but I ended up in a different field altogether (logistics management).

I have seen some MBA degrees in finance as well as some specialized graduate programs as well. But my preliminary research suggests that many students don't actually jump in to finance after the degree but instead make smaller changes within the field (so I just read about a guy who went from real estate finance to investment banking.)

Is it possible for somebody without that kind of background to just 'break into' the field with just an MBA or a specialized degree?

I think it is a very common career path. Depending on what school you go to, many students will already have some relevant experience in finance, but not having any isn't a dealbreaker in terms of making the transition. 

For many roles in finance, quant skills are valued, though, so when you're looking for jobs and interviewing you'll want to highlight those aspects of your experience.
