Employment: industry vs function? (Noob question)

Hi guys. I'm not from a business background but I've been looking into MBA programs as a possible career change for several reasons. Would anybody care to explain to me why employment rates are divided by these two categories, and what they mean exactly? Is "function" simply a category that includes the actual job titles, sort of? And industry simply describes the areas?

A function is the thing that you do, and an industry where where you do it. For example you might be an accountant working in a steel factor, or a IT person working in a school.

Got it! I guess "function" makes more sense than "position", as the position name can be made up by the company. Industry is clear enough. Thank you!
