The FIA Full Time International MBA –One-year Program. In answer to your request, here are some more details about our program, which has a focus on International Management and Strategy. It is a general management program like traditional MBAs, but with a special emphasis on a multicultural experience, and with a strong basis on our very successful International Executive MBA.
The typical class has a multicultural profile, with more than 90% of each year’s entrants coming from countries outside Brazil. Opportunities for networking with Brazilian professionals are increased as part of the classes is held jointly with the predominantly Brazilian part-time group. Our students are on average 31 years old, with 8 years of professional experience, and are striving to develop their management knowledge and skills to enhance international career prospects. A minimum of three years relevant professional experience is required.
Distinguishing features of the One-Year Full-Time program include: Portuguese lessons in the first weeks of classes, to help students in their initial steps in the country; an integrative subject on ‘Doing Business in Brazil’ with lectures and case studies that put into context the development of Brazilian business models, while granting a privileged view of globally competitive modern Brazilian enterprises through visits to some of these corporations; Career Workshops are developed targeting familiarization with the country’s labor market and culture, as well as the preparation for job applications and interviews. A consulting project must be performed in a company established in Brazil, so as to give students an opportunity to get in contact and learn about local work culture and have a real work experience. Support is provided both for developing these activities and for obtaining placement in a company for these projects. The school also holds, yearly, a Recruiting Fair in which students can have personal contact with the Human Resources staff from large Brazilian and multinational companies, as well as recruiting firms. MBA students may also do internships in local companies.
For the 2015 International MBA students, a one-week study trip to Nashville, in the USA, is part of the program; the trip includes an intensive program at Vanderbilt University and visits to local companies. Students must only answer for flights and accommodation expenses. Also, a limited number of places are reserved in each international study trip of the Executive MBA Program for the International MBA students. Three destinations are available: China, India and Europe, where classes are held in partner schools such as the University of Cambridge (UK), E.M. Lyon (France), and MDI Gurgaon (India). In China various partner universities are visited, and company visits are more intense. Additional tuition is applicable, and airfare and hotel are paid by the participants. The International MBA has partnerships with schools in the Americas, Europe and Asia, whereby our students can take three or four-month interchange periods in one of these universities, free of charge, subject to availability of places and approval of the coordination.
Class sessions integrate concepts, theory, and practical cases from Brazil and abroad. Our participation in the Harvard Latin American Case Consortium ensures the use of relevant and current cases in international management. Course packs and simulations are included in tuition and research by the EMBA Council shows that the “payback” of FIA courses is twice as fast as the average American executive MBA course.
The selection process involves 3 stages: curriculum analysis, an application essay, and an interview. The selection process is open for the group beginning in March 2015.
