An IT Team Leader going for an EMBA?
Was wondering if anyone has taken this route to gaining an MBA?
If it's a good move?
If Business school will even consider?
What are the career moves after Executive MBA for a Team Leader in IT?
I've worked in IT for over 20 years and most recently have been working leading an IT function or in a CIO advisory role. I'd say the most common career paths for MBAs working in IT are probably CIO, a senior Product Management role and increasingly, roles in business transformation (which are heavily technology enabled.)
You don't say how long you have been a team leader or what size team you are managing (I'm guessing it's in development perhaps?) I wouldn't say an MBA is vital for a senior functional IT role, I'd estimate only 20-25% of CIOs have an MBA.
You should pay as much attention to developing your soft skills e.g. leadership, which is where a lot of IT specialists are often lacking compared to their counterparts in other functions like Marketing or Finance.
