MBA Accreditations

Hi All, I am in looking into several MBA programmes for 2017. I work within the Real Estate and Construction sector and have seen the following programme at the University College Of Estate Management: MBA Construction and Real Estate

It is accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and the Chartered Association of Building Engineers (CABE).

Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Level 7 qualification in Strategic Management and Leadership

However, this course is not accredited by the main three MBA bodies AMBA, EQUIS & AACSB.

What are your thoughts on the existing accreditations? Do you feel they are recognised enough for this course? And will this MBA be recognised by professionals in real estate and construction sector?

Any advice / help would be much appreciated.

This course looks more like an MSc than an MBA, with a small core and far fewer courses that an accredited MBA or MSc (Compare with http://www.cass.city.ac.uk/courses/masters/courses/real-estate). The college is well known in UK real estate, and the MBA seems well suited for roles in real estate business development. If you want an MBA type role, find an accredited MBA.

If you're already in the real estate sector, you may not need to find a program that's specialized in that area. Rather, look at ranked MBA programs, many of which will be recognized by those in the industry.

If you want to work in real estate, any RICS-accredited (basically the gold plate for the industry) degree would do, at least of you want to work in the UK.

It doesn't have to be an expensive MBA though...

If you want to do something outside of RE, forget RICS ;-)
