Which MBA? Birmingham? Edinburgh? Durham? Illnois?

Hi,

Just some background:
I have a first-class degree in English lit, and then went into hospitality. I worked my way up and have been Assistant Manager for 2 years. I have always been interested in the business side of how places run and the operations. I plan on taking an online MBA part-time while I continue to work in Australia (hospitality pays more here for less hours worked = more time to study).

I plan on returning to London in 2/3 years, and would like to move up to more into an operational role.

Does anyone have any advice on which course would be best?

It might help if you can identify more specific goals and roles you might want to do rather than just thinking of 'the business side' or 'operations'.

You don't mention which part of the sector you work in but from my recent experience of working in hospitality companies, (restaurants and bars), a generalist management degree like an MBA may not be the right route.

I would not recommend an MBA if you want to work in an operational role. Find an MSc in whatever business function you want to operate in, ideally with accreditation from the relevant chartered UK professional body. I understand. But I don’t want to limit myself to hospitality. I want it to open up more doors if that makes sense

I understand what you mean and think that will lead to a suboptimal choice. Focus on clarifying values and goals. Work out where you can add most value.  Pick a most viable path.
