work experience for MBA from Non tradtional background

Hello,

I am a lawyer by profession with a masters in Law and Finance. I have one year full time experience and currently preparing for GMAT to pursue MBA in Finance. My Targets are top ranked B school only either in UK or USA, quite selectives ones.

I want to know does work experience requirement of minimum years really matter? Since I am not from finance or tech or even engineering background and my purpose of doing MBA is career transitioning and combine it with law.

Yes, the requirements are required. Rather than take a MBA at a below average school, look at the masters in finance programmes ranked by the Financial Times.

But why will I take an MBA at below average school. only concern was to ask if non traditional work experience matters, going to below average B school is cazry suggestion. Also, MSc Finance is moslty for finance oriented background candidates, so MBA fits my requirement better in terms of career transition.

If you want to take an MBA outside India, and don't have much more work experience, then you are limited to unranked schools.

You are mistaken about MiF degrees.

If you have less than 4-5 years of work experience - traditional or not - it's not worth pursuing an MBA, because you won't get into one where the investment will pay off.

I agree about the Master in Finance suggestion, but you can also look at Master in Management programs if you don't want to focus on finance completely. But if your goal is in the finance sector, an MiF (preferably one ranked by the FT) is the way to go.
