GMAT 670

Hi,

I have given the GMAT the last week and scored 670 (m-51,v-30). I am planning for a 12 month MBA program. I have a very good academic background and performed well consistently in all my educational career. I have completed B.tech with 8/10 CGPA overall. Then joined my family business and worked for 6 months.
And finally landed up in an IT Job. I have completed 1.5 yrs in this MNC. By the time I join a MBA program, I would be gaining 2.5-3 years of experience (including the 6 months in my family business). I have been heading our student organization and have also participated in a few events.

What are my chances of getting into a good MBA program? I would also like you to suggest a few good colleges where I could have chances of getting in.

Your work experience is on the low side. A safety school for you would be something like Thunderbird.

Maybe a school like Manchester (18 month program) might be within your range, because even if your experience is a bit low, you might be able to offset that with your higher than average GMAT.
What are your career goals? And where do you want to do your MBA program? (US, UK, Europe, etc.?)

As of now I have shortlisted Asia, Australia and UK. But I am awaiting more suggestions on the location. Location is a secondary thing. The primary thing is the cost of study + living expenses and the Return on Investment. My long term goal is to be an entrepreneur. But before starting off on my own, I would like to work for a few years in areas like marketing and finance. I am also looking towards the M.Sc courses. But I am a little worried about the Job Prospectus!

Personally, I wouldn't look into MSc courses if you have work experience.

Maybe use some of the lower-tier accredited MBAs in the UK as safety schools (Bath, Hult.)

Then, maybe a school like NTU in Singapore for more of a stretch. The SP Jain might work in this sense as well, if you want a more global experience.

In Australia, there's Melbourne, but I think that would be a large stretch based on your work experience.

AGSM and SMU are good schools. Neither are really made for people who want to end up being entrepreneurs, but they are good at getting international students jobs in their respective countries. SMU would probably be better for a career in finance.

Scholarships are normally very competitive at these kinds of schools - but contact them directly. Same about the part-time jobs.

You're considering Canada too? Seems like you should probably narrow down your focus to just one country based on where you want to be.

I do realize that I am focusing on wide geography. But the problem is that I have got only a few one year courses. I feel Singapore is a good country and has a very increasing economy. But there is only one school, SMU,which I have chances of getting in. I am totally in a confusing situation. Currently I have started application procedure for both AGSM and SMU. I can spend upto 20 Lakh Rupees.

Added to my concern, few of my friends say that we wont be having time to pursue a part time job while doing an MBA. Is that true?
