I am currently looking at different courses to help advance my knowledge of business and management as well as my career overall, but having difficulties with which option to choose.
A little background info about me: I am British national currently living and working in Seoul, South Korea, I aim to work here for the next few years until I finish the course I choose and then possibly return to the UK, another (warmer) Asian country or Australia for a few years.
Employed at a local medium sized company who is a raw material supplier to the Middle East in the refined petrochemical industry - Polyurethane.
My current position is working in the overseas department as a junior operations manager (9months), managing 2 local employees in the Middle East, which could potentially increase to around 7 -10 as my company are looking to establish a local office in the Middle East.
Courses I have enquired and considering. I am open to other suggestions, too.
*Bradford’s - MBA - passed the initial basic screening.
* University of Liverpool - MSc Operations and Supply Chain Management.
* University of Birmingham – MSc International Business.
Bradford and Birmingham’s courses are Triple accredited so these are much more appealing than Liverpool’s course. I asked at Birmingham but because I don’t have 3 years managerial experience (slightly over 2years in total) they say I won’t be eligible for their MBA and recommend the MSc instead.
I applied to a local AACSB accredited MBA course and was admitted but due to time restraints was unable to take the place in the end. I go on frequent trips to the Middle East every 3-4 months that last up to a month at a time – the minimum being 2 weeks.
Because of this I am looking to study online with an accredited UK university as it gives me more flexibility. Blended courses are not an option for me since I work full time and have a family to provide for; hence 100% online being the best choice.
My expectations are for a course that will help to increase my overall knowledge of every aspect of business and management. My company could possibly send me to the Middle East to run the operation side in our local office once it is established, so I would like to prepare myself with all aspects of business that I may face.
