MBA or MSc in Management & Information Systems

Hi Folks,

I am a Computer Engineer from India with 2 years of experience in the IT field-SAP BASIS(Less or no programming). I want to pursue management roles after my master's in UK, Canada, or the USA.

I am confused about choosing the right degree, like should I go with MBA, MIM, or MIS.

My future aim is to work in a management role in the UK or whichever country I choose.

I did my research in the UK and found MIS looks a good fit for me as i have my bachelor's in CS but I think MBA can also provide a broader knowledge.

Cranfield Uni's syllabus for MIS looks good to me. I have started applying to colleges started with Cranfield. What other colleges would you suggest?

Need some suggestion to choose a course and college in the UK or any good country for the same.

Totally confused about my choices????

Given the leap in moving continents, and your limited experience, it's unlikely that you will go directly into a general management role. What realistic role, what industry and what function do you want to focus on? Given immigration restrictions, Canada is the obvious choice and, if you don't speak French, Ontario.

I want to start with IT industry jobs like Project/Product Management Trainee or IT consultant, basically management jobs which are suitable for fresh Postgrads.

Canada seems good. I have started looking for good colleges there also.

Because the MBA outside Asia is generally a degree for people with more substantial work experience, and typically some management experience, a technology-oriented masters might be better than a general management degree like the MBA.

IT project management is a very saturated field. I would suggest focusing on product management as a better (and probably higher paying) long term option. It is very competitive and in the current job market, entry level roles with no product experience are very difficult to find.

However, if you do a masters and start looking again in 18 months to 2 years, the market is likely to be much healthier.
