MSc Information System - Warwick, Manchester or Lancaster

Hi,

I have been accepted to the following programme:
- Warwick MSc Information Systems and Management
- Manchester MSc Information Systems: Organisations and Management
- Lancaster MSc Information Technology, Management and Organisational Change

Can anyone advise which one is the best? It's kind of dilemma... FYI, I'm planning to work as a consultant.
And is it true that part time job is easier to get in big city like Manchester? Because I plan to have part time job while studying, to help with my finance...

You want to be a IT consultant to be precise. Consulting is a vast, vast field...and is can be classified in numerous sub domains like marketing consultant, management consultant, finance consultant etc etc...to add more to our woes...the field comes more complex when you concentrate on a single vertical...

Can you let us know regarding ur work-ex? i.e. your current company, duration and current role/domain etc.

Hi Tammy,

since you have exp in SAP i would recommend you the Warwick Program since the program has a special tie up with SAP Labs and Deloitte.

Of Course Lancaster is also good...the Lancaster program has got a tie up with Accenture. Manchester though dont have any tie ups as such but the course structure is equally good.

To be honest, it doesnt matter from where u do the course among WBS, MBS and LUBS since the course being techno-managerial one is regarded as a 'old wine in a new bottle' and being international student u r on ur own to find a job..but I think Warwick would be a ideal match to ur profile if u dealt with ABAP module in SAP..

hey a query,

i am from India and i dont have any experience.. am a fresh graduate. Since i didn't want to waste my time trying to find a job during this recession i planned to study. I have also got admits from these three universities. Although as an international student i am on my own to find jobs, i would like to know the probability that fresh grads like me can actually get a job since i read in the above posts that guy has a work ex and is suited for the course n job.. can u share some light on it please.

There is actually nothing to explain actually...well, yes fresh grads do get jobs...and that includes international students as well...you have to apply under the Graduate scheme to the various co.s...but jobs are less for international students...but a strong cv does find its way to the interviewer's desk.

i would like to ask one thing.. why is that the masters in UK is only 1 year.. when even most of EU unis like sweden's KTH offer it as 2 year course like the US or Aus.. and why is that there is no GRE or any sort of entrance exam.. the whole admission procedure looks very mysterious .. how do we know under what basis they give admits..

Honestly donno! but I prefer 1 yr, less living costs, less time out of the corporate world...

Though GRE/GMAT is not required for the MSc courses...Some premier b schools like LSE, Cass, Warwick, Strathclyde prefers students having GMAT scores for MSc as well.

I wont blame you...its really mysterious! GMAT being an american product may be most of the british b schools simply love to ignore it for the MSc courses! another possible explanation may be that the MSc being a relatively new kid up on the block they are pushing hard to popularise the product by lowering the bar. but for MBA, GMAT is a must for 90% of the b schools.

Oh we never know! actually its a combination of ielts/toefl score+ur acads+sop+extra curriculars+work ex* +interview**
* - if any
** - not all the b schools take interviews for msc courses.

I am in a fix because Warwick is not giving final resposne and for strathclyde ....consultancy are hurrying up because they say new VISA process will take 4 weeks...
but I wish to wait....
Please give me an idea...whether I shall wait...or go ahead with strathclyde...

Also give idea about...comparison of warwick and strathclyde

2. After that I've been working with Infosys as Software Engineer for 3 years. I've worked mainly on J2EE projects.
I'm looking for some information related to :

2.Manchester MSc Information Systems: Organisations and Management
3.Lancaster MSc Information Technology, Management and Organisational Change

Questions:
1. I guess to get the admit I've to give IELTS or TOEFL, then what would be good time to appear for any of above test if I ve to plan for admission in Sept 2010.

1.Ielts is a very simple exam and u can take it now too as u r planning to go for 2010..It is valid for 2yrs..it reqires around 5 days prep if ur comfortable wid the basic english.
I took it after applying to d univ...so it all depends on u.
2.there is no start date for applying...probably u should apply in dec or jan as early applications get scholarships.Apply through a counseller..it wud be helpful...I was also in Pune, and consulted Chopras..its in deccan...dey will only charge you for application couriers to d univ...
3.Exp is nt required in Msc courses..Its req if u go for MBA.
4.Living cost in UK is quite high...in cities other than London its 5400 pounds...and yes u can wrk part time..but i think not in Itmoc course Lancaster as its very extensive prog and u do not get the tym to wrk part tym dere.
5.Jobs...in current scenarios...only God knows...:)

Hi people,
I need urgent help....I have been put on waitlisting for ISM course at Warwick and have recieved offer from BITS Strathclyde....I am bit confused..
the BITS Course is pretty old (1994),however Warwick one is launched in 2005 only...but reputation is still high for warwick university...However business schools are doing equally good in rankings..warwick at 37 and Strath at 41...
Shall I wait for Warwick ISM course final response or go ahead with BITS course...Strath claims to have tie ups with Accenture..I am not sure about the placement scene from both the courses...any help would be appreciated..

I think Warwick course is still far better.

I dont give any penny over tie with this and that and those. What does it mean actually to tie up with a company. To offer you backdoor to their company? To enhance the educational experience? To visit the headquater and have some free sandwich?

Even if Warwick did not offer the course until 2000, they surely taught those long before that but not put together a formal degree with a different title.

Hi donho...
You are actually correct that tie ups are not that important but still...its improves the overall class experience...Warwick has tie up with Deloitte...
The class at warwick does not haold any work experience ...however,Strathclyde BITS has people with good work experince....Moroever,Now I have deposted the intial fees of 2000 pounds at Strathclyde...but confused whether I shall wait for Warwick and accept the offer,doing away with 2000 pounds...Is it that worth...?
or shall I still go ahead with Strathclyde....I am extrememly confused...
I wont do my MSc again and again..so thinking of getting good brand value as well...but certain points are discuraging me to do so..such as money that I have paid at Strath,(I deposited it because warwick has put me on waitlisting, m not sure whther I wiil get final seat or not),work ex people in strath..

Please guide...
