Need guidance to select right MBA

Hi Duncan and other senior members,

Though this is my first port but I have been following this forum for a long time now. I really appreciate your unbiased views and guidance.

I am an IT professional with 8 years of experience. I am basically from India and have good international exposure. My career goals are to get into Technology-Management consultancy like chief strategist and later onto become a CTO. I decided to do an MBA to boost my career towards my goals. Post MBA, I would like to work in UK/Europe/US to gain some experience and money before moving back to India.

I have wife and a kid, so I think I didn't get much time to score high in GMAT and got a very modest 600. I now have offers from Strath, Aston and Bradford. Could you please advice, which one would be better for me to pursue in order to achieve my aims.

I think you;d have a much better outcome if you take more time: get an excellent GMAT and get into the best school you can. Strathclyde is clearly the best of these schools, but there are so many better schools.....

Hi Duncan,

Thanks for your quick reply. I am in dilemma whether to select one of these offers or wait another year to get a better GMAT. I have another major issue which is finances. I cannot fund my studies for some of the better schools, even with a loan. At this point my professional growth is at its lowest, that's why I thought switching to higher studies made sense now.

It looks like I am excusing myself away from efforts, but it's not the case, I am really very confused. I believe timing your MBA at the right stage of your career also plays a big role.

Please advise.

In that case, Strathclyde is a strong choice. I'd also consider Mannheim, which has a similar score for international mobility, higher salary, a more senior cohort and at least a few domestic students.

Thanks again. Mannheim offers 5 tracks. Which track do you consider the best? Or are they all same or just depends on candidate's choice?

I would focus on the German track, considering your goals. Thunderbird is too weak a partner to offer placement. The Asian partners are very strong and provide excellent placement, but you seem to be focussed on the West.
