Can I get into a top 10 MBA?

Hello - thanks in advance for any advice.

I am 4 years into my career as a controller, and now would like to pursue an MBA.

My big weakness is my undergraduate GPA: 2.9. Not great, but in the last two years I did much better than the first two years. (in my last year, I got mostly A's in my classes, for example).

I took the GMAT and scored 700. I will retake in two weeks and am confident I will score 730 plus.

My question is - at this point, do I have any chance at a top 10 school? Chicago - Booth and Kellogg would be my ideal schools. I am a bit worried about my undergraduate GPA though.

I don't think the GPA is the issue: it will be the quality of your work experience and your fit with the schools' employers. Most people who apply to those schools are well qualified, and applying to only three won't get most applicants a seat.

So, what you're suggesting is that I apply to 4 or more schools, and spread my applications out to have the best chance of getting in?

I suggest you get your gmat and then also appy to schools that are likely to admit you.

Your GPA is simply another factor that the admissions teams will look at when evaluating your profile. While your GPA isn't that low, since it's under 3.0 they might see it as an indication that you may not be prepared for the rigorous academic experience that is an MBA. A healthy GMAT score can help mitigate this - especially if you can outscore a school's average GMAT, this may help relieve any concerns.
