US News' Top 10 B-Schools for 2017

Looks like US News is teasing its 2017 b-school ranking, which come out next week. Here are the top 10, not ranked in order but listed alphabetically:

Columbia
Dartmouth - Tuck
Harvard
MIT - Sloan
Northwestern - Kellogg
Stanford
UC Berkeley - Haas
U Chicago - Booth
UPenn - Wharton
Yale SOM

So that means that Darden is out of the top 10 and Yale is in. How much shifting within the top 10 is anybody's guess, although I can't imagine that there will be a lot of big moves, given how little has changed in the past couple of years:

3. Wharton
4. Booth
5. Sloan
6. Kellogg
7. Haas
8. Columbia
9. Tuck
10. Darden

Interesting that Yale made it to the top-ten this year, when it's been on a steady downward slope in the FT's ranking, from a top-ten ranking in 2014 to #18 this year. I'm always surprised to see how two different rankings, ostensibly ranking similar things, can show vastly different changes.

Overall, though, I don't know how reliable the US News ranking is, given that the two top ranking metrics are something called a "quality assessment," which does not sound like it's entirely objective, and a peer review.

Indeed, but judging from the top 10 there's not much change in this ranking! Maybe there's more movement further down the list.

The top 10 list in order:

Stern dropped to #20 because they didn't provide enough GMAT info in time. The school eventually gave the info but US News refused to recalculate the ranking. They were ranked #11 last year...

Miami jumped nine spots to 68, not bad for a school that just made it into these rankings last year.

I expected CUNY to make some good gains, but that school actually lost ground to land at number 85...

Binghamton, too, was ranked in the 70s just a few years ago and now it's almost dropped out completely.
