Which MBA for a Doctor?

Hello all, I hope that somebody can help me with my MBA program search.

I finished medical school 3 years ago and I've been working continuously in one clinic since. At this point, I would like to get on a track to move into a more management-oriented position, or into a consulting role.

I don't mind taking a couple years off to do my MBA, but I can't figure out where I should go. I'm in New England at the moment, and Yale has been suggested, but maybe there is a better option. I understand that Johns Hopkins now has an MBA, is this a good one?

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks. It's interesting that neither Yale nor Johns Hopkins shows up on this list. I am however, pretty interested in Columbia and Rutgers, it wouldn't be bad to live in the NYC area for a while.

Even for the best schools in this area, healthcare tends to be a niche field for MBAs. And moreover, I think that many people who do pursue the specialized programs in healthcare etc. tend to chase the money and go into pharmaceutical companies and biotech companies. That's why the programs with good outcomes here tend to do well in the specialized rankings.

Plus, the Johns Hopkins program is pretty new, I think it only started in maybe 2010? Too new to really compete with the big dogs.

Have you considered doing a part-time or executive MBA instead? Might be more valuable for you if you don't want to switch career paths.

No, I haven't considered a part-time program, because one of the things I am looking for was a complete break from work for at least a year. I think I am going to focus on the NYC area schools, Columbia and Rutgers. Perhaps NYU, but I am not sure yet. Thanks for your help!
