Mba in finance, financial services or consulting.

Hello mates

I am planning for full-time 2 years mba from canada to enroll in September 2020. I am currently working in asset services (ops) in one of the leading investment bank since last 4 years. I have two questions:

1) I am interested in both, finance and consulting. I will be appearing for cfa level 1 in December and i believe completing cfa will give me good knowledge of finance area. So i was thinking of doing mba major in consulting as doing in finance will lead to repeated courses which i will be anyway pursuing in cfa. Any suggestions on this if i am on tge right track or not?

2) Ifi chooose for finance or consulting, which are the top b schools for finance and consulting. And i will be applying for pr soon, so any idea about financial aid for mba? As of now i only know osap.

By doing cfa and mba in consulting i am planning to get into management consulting roles specializing in finance or operations management.

It's good to see that prospective students - such as yourself - are planning 1-2 years ahead. It's always welcome than the knee-jerk several students do.

Consulting as a function could majorly be divided into two. 1) Generalist Consultant 2) Specialist Consultant. For Generalist Consultant, you need to get yourself admitted into a top B school, master the case interviews, and then crack those during your interview.
For Specialist Consultant you need to really be a Specialist in your area.

Do a quick job search in your target Consulting firm, and you'll find - for example - BI, RPA, Accountant/CPA, Corporate Finance, Finance SAP, and Positions for MIT students at 2019.

Your "specialization" during your MBA will have little effect in recruiting. You'll need to convince the recruiter that you can do the job. Most helpful indicator of that is if you have done so in the past.

I am also considering an MBA in Canada with the objective of working in financial services (in Canada). Can you tell me which MBA programs you are considering? Me personally, I have UBC and Queen's on my shortlist, with Ryerson as a backup.

Honestly I am not yet sure. All depends on my gmat score. Ivey, queen's, rotman are on my list for canada. I hope i do well in gmat. Let's keep in touch?
