McGill / Concordia / HEC Montreal

Hi, I'm going to do an MBA next year primarily to be able to transition to working in Canada. I am focusing on Montreal because I have family there.

I know that McGill has a great reputation but I am wondering about how it compares to the more affordable MBAs there like Concordia and HEC.

I have read here that McGill is good for people that want to work in finance but this is not me. I would rather stay in my field which is project management / IT. For my goals could I get away with an MBA from Concordia or HEC?

Given that you are transitioning you will benefit from great careers services, a really robust programme and a good alumni network. I think that means McGill, unless you are focused on the Francophone community and already speak excellent French.

Even with Concordia? From what I understand, Concordia seems to cater more to the English-speaking community.

Although many McGill grads do go into finance, that's true - its placements tend to be more diverse than that, with the recent class going into consulting and marketing roles in decent numbers.

However, neither of their career reports go into too much details with regards to placements in IT. I would ask the schools about your career expectations and if they can put you in touch with grads who made similar transitions. Do some research on Linkedin as well.

I will ask them. The only thing is that I am not 100 % sure I want to stay in IT / project management. I am 100 % sure that I don't want to go into finance though.
