I wonder if you might need to do a bit more research into how hiring happens in Western business schools? It's not like India, for example.

I hate to break it to you, but Oil and Gas + Alberta is a recipe for unemployment right now. People in Alberta are retooling to get out of that industry. A simple google of "Alberta" + "Oil jobs" will tell you the whole story. Things could change in the long-term, but in the short-term, you have to be realistic.

Maybe consider doing a more general MBA program, rather than something specialized? When you hit the job market - if you do want to / can land a job in energy, the firms that would be looking to recruit you probably would be looking more closely at the fact that you have a background in the sector.

Plus, a general MBA wouldn't lock you in to a c career in the energy sector - it would give you much more flexibility (which it sounds like would be a good thing, as pointed out above...)

While, i don't work in Oil & Gas, "Canadian Energy" sector (note i did not include US) is perhaps the only sector that even in longer term i am not bullish, it never recovered from 2014/15, foreign capital has left this space and is going to other energy jurisdictions. Lots of reasons, but they are very fundamental in nature that was exacerbated by lower global oil prices
