HKUST/HKU/CUHK in fashion marketing focus

Hi there,

I have read most articles about those 3 schools in this board, I found that if talking overall reputation or in financial section, I believe they ranked:

1. UST (FT: 16, EIU: 30)
2. HKU (FT: NA, EIU: 38)
3. CUHK (FT: NA, EIU: 78)

However, if I would like to focus on fashion brand marketing? Which one is the best? I feel a little bit lost, due to there are too many different kind of information, and there is no conclusion at all.

1. HKU the best because:
According to QS Top MBA, HKU ranked #25 in marketing section, CUHK ranked #38 and UST is not ranked.

2. CUHK the best because:
They have a dual degree programme with HEC, the leading school in EU provided MBA focus on fashion brand management. (and, of course, good connection to industry)

3. UST the best because:
Simply their overall rank is the highest in Hong Kong. (Even you can count it in Asia if you regard INSEAD as a EU programme)

Could everybody please share your comments? Thanks!

these are all great schools, but i am not sure that thous are the right programs for someone wanting to focus on fashion marketing(well, except number 2 on your list). there are programs that have a special focus on that, but i think most of thous are based in Europe or the us. check this post here for some interesting information: http://www.find-mba.com/board/3931

any reason why you want to do it in Asia, or would you consider going to Europe or the us for that?

Dear borism,

Thanks for your reply. I also consider European schools like SDA Bocconi, HEC and ESADE. I will open a new thread in Europe board later.

The major reason drives me to do it in Asia (Hong Kong) is Money. My family lives in Hong Kong, which means I only need to spend US$55000 around to complete my MBA degree (including living expense) in Hong Kong. If I do it in Europe, it takes me around US$130000 to complete.

However, if studying oversea fits better to my career goal (to be brand manager in International fashion brand after graduate and to get into a leadership role 5 to 7 years after graduate), I won't mind to invest heavily to study oversea.

HEC or Bocconi for sure when it comes to fashion/brand marketing, so if you want to stay in HK the CUHK dual degree makes a lot of sense.

if you say you don't mind to invest money in your future, i say go for a European school - although i am sure that the CUHK is a good program, it can't possibly be as good as being at the places where fashion "happens" - and thous place are paris and italy. won't you agree that good connections in the industry there would help you get a job in the fashion industry everywhere?

If I were you, I'll go to Europe for any fashion/brand management degree.
It's something that the europeans are good at.
If you study in Asia, you'll only learn the cases in regional level, never at global level.
Imagine that you'll be getting business cards from people who work with Louis Vuitton, Gucci, dolce&Gabanna, Prada, etc.
At the same time, you'll be going to seminars in the fashion industry.

If money is a problem, you can always borrow from banks. =D
