MBA for a career in UAE

Hey everyone,

Im a marketing professional with 2 years experience in the field.
I am planning on pursuing my MBA in Dubai , I had already gone through a host of different universities and colleges, which obviously had me confused.

In your experience who do you all suggest is thE best value for money MBA program here , with /without GMAT.

Like I had mentioned , I am settling done here , so with that in mind, I am looking for helpful answers

The best value for money programmes will be the ones with the highest salaries, since the difference in salaries will be so much larger than the difference in fees: those will be the accredited programmes (executive MBAs first of all, then part-time MBAs and finally the full-time MBAs) and after them the unaccredited programmes.

Because of your limited work experience, the executive MBA is not open to you. That leaves you with few accredited choices. The Manchester Global MBA in Dubai stands out as the best part-time programme, and SP Jain and Hult stand out as full-time programmes. If you want to settle in the UAE, SP Jain has better roots so put that first.

Will surely be considering the options you had mentioned.

I would like to know if the two university's IMT Dubai and AMITY Dubai are good enough to be reckoned with in the UAE , does these have value to be considered for a good salary package.

Is it worthy of the investment as an MBA IN THE UAE?.

I think you'd have to ask these subsidiaries of Indian schools directly for placement and salary data. They are not at the level of the schools I have mentioned. Unless your plan was explicitly to move to India, I would focus on accredited programmes.

I don't like to poke fun, but the IMT website says:
'The Greek philosopher Aristotle emphasized ?Menssana in corporate sanem?'

Of course this quote is Latin, not Greek. It should be "Mens sana in corpore sano". And it's a quote from Juvenal, not Aristotle. I'm not sure if that accurately reflects the IMT campus there, but it sounds a note of caution.

Even I am also finding this Global MBA since few months. I am basically from India... Could you please help me with little more information about this program and the two colleges that you have mentioned?

One more thing that I am quite confused - Is this program distinguishes itself from MBA? If yes, then how?

Please let me know as I am also looking for abroad MBA but quite confused with the programs to pick up. (I have 5 years of experience).

Have you thought about London Business School or Cass. Both of them will give you a chance to visit London.

Do you have specific questions about Manchester's program?

In general, if a school says that its MBA program is global, it's a branding issue. Curriculum-wise It might have more international business courses; but in the case of the Manchester program it just implies that you can take it in a number of different places around the world.

I think he means that a "global MBA" need not be very different from an "MBA".

Hi Duncan,

I also have similar objective as the OP has but I have 4 years of managerial experience. I have worked as a director of global procurement and logistics for a transnational oilfield servicing company. I am considering going for executive MBA either in LBS or SP Jain. As an objective I am thinking to switch to consulting industry and continue my career in a reputable firm, for personal growth and higher salary (I am already getting a median salary of a top mba school graduate so I am not sure if I am being realistic or no). However, I have read in some forums that executive MBA programs are not really suitable for those who want to switch their industries, and there is no really solid support in terms of placement or career support; that such programs are mostly for those who wish to progress in their current organization. Do you think this is true? If yes, then which programs in UAE would be more suitable for my objectives? Thanks a lot for your feedback!

The London MBA in Dubai is almost certainly the best choice for you, so I am glad you've named it first.

I think there are really two elements:-
- How substantial is the careers service from each school?
- What role does that service play for EMBAs' career changes.

The FT EMBA ranking has a 'Careers' metric at http://rankings.ft.com/businessschoolrankings/emba-ranking-2013 so I'd look for a school in the top half, like Cass or LBS. They both have strong careers services.

However, the full-time experience is centred on internships and employers hiring into entry-level MBA roles, and the EMBA is not - EMBA does into more senior roles and that requires a different job search strategy.
