Hello,
I have the following profile:
BE Computer Science, Mumbai University, India
MS Computer science, USA
8.5 yrs of US software industry experience (all in USA from top companies)
My question:
Is doing an MBA in India worth it? As I have no experience in India will it help if i specialize in Finance? How much salaries should i expect by doing MBA in IT even from the best institutes in India

This seems like a good question to ask on an Indian website. There are rankings of Indian MBAs which show their salaries. You will be too old for some Indian MBA/PGDM programmes. A one-year full-time "executive" programme might be better for you.

ISB
IIM-A
IIM-B
International Management Institute
Management Development Institute
SP Jain

There are a lot of MBA and PGP programs in the country, but only a handful would be worth the investment.

I am not forcing anyone to join any particular institute. I just have suggested few MBA colleges in India which might be helpful to others.

It's such a relief that you're not forcing anybody to join one of these programs! Given that none are accredited by AACSB, AMBA, or EQUIS, they probably wouldn't be worth the investment anyway...

What, can I ask from here in the UK, is "United Kingdom Certification Service". I googled it and ended up on alibaba.com!

Not is AICTE approval the same thing. AACSB, EQIS and AMBA all reflect programmes with higher than average quality. AICTE approval reflects the minimum quality required: In its opinion, no institution may offer a technical program or course without approval of the Council (although many do).

yes! why not. An MBA from a good university in India will not just prepare you for the jobs but will prepare you for the challenges of work place and the situations that arise in the toughest of moments. This is exactly the reason why Indian entrepreneurs were able to withstand the meltdown of 2008.

Yes, this user is probably trying to market a specific program, since he links to it in his profile. I still stand by my opinion that the only MBA programs in India that would be worth the investment are those accredited by AACSB, AMBA, or EQUIS. Some of the other accreditation organizations are questionable at best and fraudulent at worse.

On that note, congratulations are due to IIM Calcutta, which was awarded AMBA accreditation recently.

What are your goals? If you want to work in finance then a specialization in finance might be appropriate.

For the best career growth, look at the top schools in the country: ISB, IIMA, IIMB, etc.

In general, yes, doing an MBA or a PGP(X) from one of those schools is worth the investment. Doing an MBA from an unknown or unaccredited school tends to be less of a good investment.

This level of schools tend to publish career report, so you can find salary details there (or in the FT rankings).

I have done MBA in marketing from Thapar School of Business Management and currently working with a reputed organization. I was previously working with very less salary and doing MBA was the best decision I made. It gave me a hike of almost 150% and I learned many things during the course.
