"Southern Cross University cements its ties with Thailand - Naresuan University officers tour the Lismore campus

While they are thousands of kilometres apart, Southern Cross University and Thailand?s Naresuan University have plenty in common and have forged strong links.

Both are leading regional universities with a passionate commitment to being the best in their nation.

Last month senior officers of both universities got together to sign official agreements to cement their relationship.

What the ?Two Plus Two Articulation Agreement? essentially delivers is a guarantee that students who do two years of tourism studies at Naresuan University will be able to complete their Bachelor of Tourism Management degree following two years of study at Southern Cross University.

Also during the visit an existing Memorandum of Understanding - initially signed six years ago between Thailand?s Sirinsiam Corporation, Naresuan University and Southern Cross University - was expanded to a partnership agreement.

This agreement delivers a Master of International Tourism and Hotel Management degree to Thai students studying at Naresuan University.

Associate Professor Ngaire Douglas, Head of the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management, said both agreements were of great importance to Southern Cross University.

?Thailand has a huge tourism industry and it is of considerable benefit to our students to have lecturers who are so closely in tune with what is happening in Asia, one of Australia?s biggest tourism markets,? she said.

?Our lecturers travel there to teach regularly so they are constantly able to monitor and update their knowledge on the Asian tourism industry and get a real understanding of Thailand?s history and culture.

?This gives our students ? the tourism managers of the future ? a tremendous advantage in their studies because it internationalises our program."
