One Year MBA

Hi,

I Sadique Akhter is a Business Analyst in IMS Health (world largest pharmaceutical and healthcare market research and consulting firm). I carry 2 yrs of diversified experience in consulting as analyst (IMS Health) and marketing (Pfizer). Being a Bachelor in Pharmacy guy....I am looking forward to go for one year full time MBA.

I have not appeared for GMAT or TOEFL or IELTS (and would not untill required).

Please help to recomment any good college where I can meet experienced individuals to share their experience and knowledge, excellent faculty and placements (if any). I am not in a mood to spend 2 yrs for MBA. So one year MBA is my choice.

I can't spend more than $15k for the entire programme. Do you know about good business schools?

I have already studied the Indian and singapore MBA schools scenario....looking forward to know more about China and other countries.

Hi Sadique. I don't think you can find an excellent MBA for $15,000. Excellent is expensive to produce.

Your IMS colleague in India tend to have attended MBA schools like:
University of Mumbai
Narsee Monjee Institute
University of Pune
Kendriya Vidyalaya
Amity Business School
Institute of Technology
Bharati Vidyapeeth
Birla Institute
Indian Institute of Tech
University of Lucknow
Delhi University

Why not look into those?

Hi Duncan,

Thank you for your response. I have already considered all business schools for my MBA, however almost all of them carry only fresher candidates who possess no industry experience. Only IIMs and few top business schools consider experienced candidates, however GMAT score is normally above 720 in those schools.

I am not interested to pursue MBA from a college who bears only fresher candidates, because there is no knowledge sharing and networking.

In India, MBA fees range mostly between $10k - $14k (few exceptions).

Can you recommend me few colleges in China (I prefer China over US and Europe) due to market scenario (study environment, entrepreneurship networking) and I am really not focused on Tip-top MBA colleges or Countries.

Kindly recommend.

Why not get 720 in your GMAT and then study at an IIM?

Getting into a quality, accredited MBA will be the best approach. If you care about networking, then you need students who are and will be as successful, or more successful, than you.

Hi! I graduated from the Hitotsubashi University Graduate School of International Corporate Strategy and I honestly feel it's one of Asia's best kept secret where the Asia MBA is concerned! It is entirely in English, has a top 20 most influential business thinker as named by WSJ in its faculty, has a 1-year MBA option and because it's a national university has the lowest tuition (how about USD7000/year??) you'd ever find. I did the 2-year program, and paid tuition of 535,800 yen x 2 years = 1,071,600 yen (about USD13,300).

Also, some of my friends took advantage of the installment program where the fees can be paid on a term basis, without interest. I'm not sure about whether private institutions offer this but my hunch is that this option is available because this Hitotsubashi ICS is a national university. It's a shame that this information doesn't seem to be available on the website but you can always check with the admissions office to reconfirm this.

In addition, everyone (1- or 2-year) had to pay a one-time matriculation fee at the time of enrollment of 282,000 yen (about USD 3500). I believe this is a flat rate, i.e. it isn't halved if you're only doing the 1-year program.

I'd be curious to know the answer to this question as well. Of most developed countries in Asia, MBA programs in Japan are usually the most tricky: only a few (Kelo, Nagoya) are internationally accredited, and the actual degree holds less value among Japanese companies in comparison to those in other parts of Asia.

It is interesting that Hitotsubashi's curriculum is sort of a combination of American and Japanese aspects, but I'm not sure about how much weight this would have with Japanese companies seeking employees - or even if the MBA provides an educational middle ground that is actually undesirable.
