Also, through a bit of research it looks like International Relations is a Master of Arts, not an MBA. Maybe I'm confusing the sectors.

Yes, you don't often see an MBA in International Relations. International or Global Business is much more common. That said, INSEAD and Johns Hopkins just launched a new dual degree MA-MBA focusing on international relations. Look into it if you are the ambitious type... ;)

In response to your question, an International Relations degree is very different from an MBA. If you are interested in business, Shanghai Jiao Tong University has an International MBA program, which is consistently ranked in among the top MBA programs in the country. Additionally it is the only biz school in China to be triply accredited by AACSB, EQUIS, and The Association of MBAs. It is worth a look if you are interested in building a network and career in Shanghai, while getting an internationally accredited MBA.

Shanghai is definitely tempting since I've heard amazing things about the city in terms of culture, business and opportunity (also have some friends there!), but I'm not sure if I'd want to stay in China. This is always a tough decision because most people advise to study where you want to work, due to contacts

But this INSEAD and Johns Hopkins dual MA-MBA degree for International Relations might be exactly what I'm looking for, as opposed to a general 'international' or 'global' program, because to me that doesn't sound specific enough.

This way, a degree from INSEAD could very well take me to Asia afterwards.
