Working after MBA in New Zealand

I'm very interested in doing my MBA in New Zealand. Namely, Otago or the University of Auckland.

My question is, how realistic is it to expect to be able to work in the country after graduation as a new immigrant.

I'm not talking about visas, because I understand that after an MBA I would have 1 year to get a job. I'm talking about whether or not employers will hire somebody who's not from New Zealand.

I love the country, I've been there three times already and want to move there permanently. However, I don't want to waste a bunch of money to find out it's impossible to get a job after the MBA.

This really seems like a question for Otago, obviously the best option, and its recent alumni. I see that unemployment, the NZ pound,, and inflation are close to the lowest for recent years so export oriented talent should be interesting, given the condition s.

Otago has got some self-reported career stats here:

... looks like half of the alumni base is in NZ, and half is outside.

It would be interesting to know how those placements line up with the graduates' expectations, though.

As far as I know, they don't publish career statistics. Maybe you can ask them directly.

Given the population of Australia and New Zealand, there would probably be comparably fewer jobs in those countries than in Canada.

However, it really depends on what your goals are, in terms of sectors, organizations you want to work for, etc. Firms in each of these countries will probably be pretty hungry for MBA talent in popular sectors like finance and consulting. Maybe less so in other sectors like oil and gas.

However, I'm not sure that they need a *lot* of MBAs. Why not browse through any job ads you find for New Zealand hospitality firms? See what kind of jobs are available, the career levels, and the requirements.

Also you can look through LinkedIn and find employees of the organizations that would be interesting for you. See where (or if) they did their MBAs.

"So let's look at the list of schools shown on the "All Filters" page. From there I see the top schools are listed in descending order:"

However, I am not seeing a filter for schools at all. In fact I don't see this filter for many other searches. It doesn't show up even for a broad search of 'MBA' with no other filters on.

It's unfortunate because this seems like it would be a good way to get some insights. Any other thoughts on how to do this?
