EMBA in Switzerland / South Germany

Hello Everyone

I am looking for an EMBA / Part-Time MBA in Switzerland or South Germany.
I do have a strong background in engineering / research & development. As I want to remain close to engineering, I've looked at these special programs:
-Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) - EMBA Management of Technology
-Technische Universität München (TUM) - Executive MBA in Innovation and Business Creation

The languages are no problem. I do speak German and French.

What do you think about these specialiced EMBA programs?Should I prefer a more general EMBA program (which?)?

Best programs in Switzerland are probably HSG and IMD. But until I receive a substantial support from my company, they are too expensive.

I think these are strong programmes. I'd also look at the Purdue-Gisma EMBA, but that's in Hannover. Perhaps the attendance mode is key for you?

Thank you for your fast response. Purdue-Gisma EMBA looks interesting too. I haven't had this on my list.

Attendance mode is quite important for me as I would like to keep my current position.
Classes at EPFL are regularly on Friday and Saturday while TU Munich is from Friday to Sunday. I can manage both. However, having Sunday to prepare case studies etc. could be an advantage while working part time.

Other things being equal, I would recommend which ever has the most attendance days on campus, and where the attendance is in more (rather than fewer) segments. The classic EMBA format, centred on alternate Fridays and Saturdays, meaning 100 days over two years, is really good. If the module structure of the GISMA program works, then take a look at the Euro*MBA which, like the LMU EMBA, is co-organised with the HHL.

I've added the RWTH Aachen to my list.
Probably, I will apply for all EPFL, TU Munich and RTWH Aachen and look what happens.

Which one would you pick, if you could choose:
-RWTH Aachen / University of St. Gallen HSG
-EPFL Management of Technology

Both programs have their advantages......

I would go for HSG for the better DACHs network.

Shewta, Swiss banks will obviously prefer candidates with their local languages. If you have some deep and rare expertise then English might be fine - but it would have to be much better English than yours. But if you had the same skills as any other MBA in finance then I don't see why they would hire you over another with the local languages.

Have a look at some bank job offers in the German/French part of Switzerland. Mostly English/German or English/French is required.

Anyone could tell about emba rwth aachen. It seems pretty good program with st. Gallen corporation. RWTH aachen has excellent reputation in engineering field.

It is a perfect combination.

Could anyone give advice between HHL and Aachen.

Well, the website is very clear: http://www.emba.rwth-aachen.de/ The RWTH programme is taught only in German. The degree is from RWTH not HSG.

I think the experience and network will be better from HHL.

Let me share a little bit about my background. I do speak german and graduated from RWTH aachen. I believe that i know RWTH Aachen well, enjoying also its reputation in german industry, but i don't know whether this reputation is applicable for its EMBA?

I also checked The Global EMBA HHL-EADA, it seems pretty good. I am really interested to know your opinion about this program.

Could you also please give some other part time program to which i should apply too? Other business school with the same level of study fee.

I am thinking of starting in 2014/2015.

Well, the problem is this: German engineers respect RWTH, but they don't respect the MBA. German business people, especially in finance, consulting and IT, will respect schools with ranked full-time MBAs but will be skeptical about the ability of RWTH to deliver a state of the art MBA. I'd suggest that you'll be better taking an MBA from an establish, ranked schools with experience and an alumni network in the MBA world.

Yes, all the HHL programmes are good. Also look at the Euro*MBA, and think about your career goals.

nice explanation.

since i am working full time job in Germany, only part time MBA will perfectly fit for my situation. if you have to choose, which would be your choice?

1. Mannheim
2. HHL,
3. Goethe
4. St. Gallen
5. ??? (pls feel free if you want to add)

pls consider following point:

Target country: Germany (Europe)
Budget: under 45.000 Euro
Company: Technology

I haven't visit other school, beside HHL for the interview. The interview was very successful. Leipzig is really a nice city.

Well, I would replace Goethe with WHU and then you have a very strong list.

HHL clearly has a very broad portfolio: part-time, Global; TUM and Euro*MBA... there's something there for everyone ;-)

I was wondering whether it is better to wait and save a bit more money to go to IE or INSEAD than take an actual offer from Mannheim or HHL right now? My personal view is HHL over Mannheim.

would it make significant impact to go IE or INSEAD? if I will work in germany anyway.

I am referring to Part-time, included Executive MBA.

I would say it depends on your plans. If you are looking for an EMBA program with a focus on technology and innovation, you should consider the RWTH. If you are interested in a more general program, I would choose HSG (which has actually quit the some program with the module week).
Anyhow, if you have finished the RWTH EMBA you can do the assessment at HSG and do additional 5 modules (shortened due to the collaboration between HSG and RWTH), pay another 20k and you will get the HSG EMBA as well.

I think these options really depend on your goals. IE makes sense only if your plans are focussed on the Spanish-speaking world. Insead will be better quality in every way, and even its German alumni network is invaluable. I think that if Insead is an option for you then you should take it if your interests are in any way external to the German-speaking market. But if the DACHs is your focus, then HSG is the strongest option.
