EMBA near Munich/ Distant MBA

Dear all,

Glad I just found this forum. I have been playing with an idea of an EMBA for quite some time now. I have a Bachelors degree in Engineering from India. I am an IT professional with 10 yrs. of experience. I have worked for a major Indian IT services company and spend lot of time working onsite in the UK and Germany. I recently took up a job as an IT consultant with a German company near Munich.

Hope that's enough of for my background :-)
I would ideally like to do an EMBA in English around Munich. I have already looked at the MBA General mgmt from Munich Business school, but they told me that I need a degree in economics to be eligible for the MBA. I find it a little strange. Is this really a requirement for MBA courses? Anyway, Does somebody have an advice on what's a good and practical option for me?
Another one I was looking at is EMBA from University of Augsburg, but they need a good knowledge of German. My German is at a beginner level and I certainly cannot attend lectures in German at least now.

How about distant learning? How are the prospects for a distant MBA? Any recommendations for such a course?

The requirement of a degree in economics is weird in fact, usually MBA are open to applicants holding a bachelor from any discipline.

But anyways in Munich you have a choice of schools offering MBA programs. Will you be based in Munich for the time you'd do the MBA? In that case you should first consider doing the MBA there also, since you have a choice.
DIstant Learning is more an option if there is no good MBA in the neighbourhood, because you will loose the benefit of networking and exchange with other students.

You should only consider doing a program held in English and learn German outside school. An MBA is very challenging. You won't want to be bothered by learning a language to understand the class, nor be limited in your studies just by lack of language skills.

If you have been working in Germany before and desire to continue working with German firms upon your completion of study, you may want to consider the school in Switzerland - University of St Gallen. By all the german-ranking, it is the number 1 business school in the german-speaking region. Moreover, the programme is taught in English. Together with the University of Toronto in Canada, they offer a solid Global Executive MBA programme.

Thank you very much for your replies.

A_mukerjee, I am not in Munich but approx. 60kms north, but if there is a good option in Munich, it's really no problem for me to travel. But as I said, I could not really find any good options in Munich.

I learned about the FOM MBA in Munich (fom.de). They seem to offer the MBA in many different cities in Germany. But again, I am not sure how much it is valued in the German job market. Does anybody knows about the FOM MBA?

Thomas, The MBA from St. Gallen requires at least 3 yrs. of mgmt level experience, which I do not have at the moment. Also, their program starts in August so I would be able to make it only in next August, if at all. So this option is more or less ruled out.

Then I also came across the Euro MBA (euromba.org) which is a distant course with 6 weeks of residential sessions and is triple accredited. Does anybody know about this course and it's market value? Will it be better accepted in Europe than distant courses from UK Universities?
