EMBA strongest for the DACH region

Dear board members,

I am 41, Austrian and based in Vienna, Austria. I just began to move out of the IT field into the process Management and Quality Management and Quality assurance field using many parts of the ITIL Framework.

I want to start up my own Company in the Consulting field but I start to see the lack in general knowledge about Operations outside IT and want to heavily improve my leadership skills ideally in a combined way. Also I do have a BSc in Business & Management and more than 15 years work exprerience together with a PMP and ITIL expert certification.

I will probably remain in Vienna for the rest of my career and so the obvious choice would be the WU/Carlson program but I have been for too Long in the Austrian educational System and also I have been talking to WU staff and alumni I am not really convinced.

So I have been researching and visiting fairs for the last years but could´t filter out the one for me.

But I do have some favourites:

Ominum
LBS
IE/Brown
WHU/Kellogg
SDA Bocconi
HEC
ESADE new english EMBA

I would be very thankfull for your ideas and suggestions.

What are your goals? Why doesn't the Vienna programme meet them, if it;s the obvious programme? Do you want to have clients most outside Austria?

Hello mate,

Would you mind sharing your route to get certification of PMP and ITIL. I worked in IT and thinking about getting the certification but needs to pointers to the right direction. Any forum or community places I can dig into this

If you fancy consulting Kellogg is certainly the best choice. And WHU is renowned in German speaking region.

Others are strong programs but dont stretch more than their own regional offering.

Duncan can compare Kellogg-WHU vs LBS?

Maybe also consider ESMT or ESCP? They both have strong networks in Germany.

Hello Duncan,

Thanks for getting back to me. Yes, I do want Clients mostly from outside Austria, because I see that the market in Austria is not that big or companies lack the size to do Projects of that kind.

And as I also feel the CEE region is not the place for that kind of Projects I want to take my Consulting to the DACH region.

Thats why I think studying outside of Austria will give me the possibility to connect to People from the D/CH and other regions and also the Reputation of a non Austrian University would help in that sense as potential customers see that I am not totally focussed on Austria and can think outside of the box.

Together with the feel and need to get fresh ideas from outside for myself.

I hope I could clarify my ideas a bit more.

My route to the ITIL and PMP certification was quite similar. I just got into IT Service Management and Project Management by accident, as there were open positions with the companies and People there knew that I like being challenged and am a quick to adapt and learn new skills.

So I first started working in the field and the later realised that I needed the theoretical Background to be really able to tackle the challenges and got certified.

From my Point of view the ITIL certification is less Hands on. You will be more of a process optimiser, Report designer, Quality assurer, operations manager and that Kind of stuff.

Somebody who wants to take on the real Long term challenge when you are inside a Company.

And at least here in Austria ITIL ist still very much an IT Thing. But its changing slowly.

The PMP certification will probably open a bigger field outside IT.
