ESMT

hello all, have been contemplating about ESMT program. theoretically it seems to have good support of 25 strong founding companies, not sure how much those companies are interested, coz thy do not seems to be recruiting from ESMT as of now !

The program has gained all major accreditations and as per school will appear in all full time rankings in next 2-3 years. Anybody has any local/ insider information about - the overall quality of institute and reputation in Germany as of now !

- the placement statistics seems to be encouraging but more then 10% of the class consists of sponsored candidates and hence goes back to same employer at higher salary, so adjusting that, not sure how lucrative is German market for expats with basic knowledge of German, especially in Consulting, Business Development roles. Can anyone share his/her experiences of job market in general for MBA grads in Germany

- the faculty at ESMT seems to be better then WHU or Mannheim but not sure if faculty plays active role in giving specific technical/ personal/ career guidance to students at ESMT. If someone knows someone at ESMT or someone from ESMT can comment about this aspect, would be great

Though I'm not a big fan of comparing things, but still tempted to compare St. Gallen v/s ESMT, now and 4-5 years down the line (if anybody can predict !!)

I think ESMT compares favorably with St. Gallen, and will become more competitive with it in the next few years.

St. Gallen shows up on the global rankings mainly because of the school's strong post-MBA salary data - but in my opinion, this is influenced more by location: salaries and cost of living are generally higher in Switzerland than in Germany. Of course, this will shift if the German economy continues to grow.

If you do the ESMT program, definitely make a point of working on your language skills - as is clear from other posts here, this is a very important factor in landing a job in Germany post-graduation.

According to Businessweek, average salaries at graduation for Mannheim alum tend to be $104k (79k EUR.)

That said, 73k EUR for ESMT grads is pretty good, but I'm not sure how many of them get that kind of money in Berlin.

ESMT isn't perhaps the strongest brand for aviation. In terms of Lufthansa, I image your target might be Lufthansa Technik or Lufthansa Systems rather than the airline's consumer business. Either way, these firms are strongly rooted in the former West Germany rather than Berlin. They will tend to hire German-speakers from Technical Universities. They are not major hirers of MBAs or MiM graduates. I think a more effective route in will be to take an intensive Germany course for a year (I assume you don't have a professional level of German) in Hamburg, Munich or Stuttgart. And then look for an MSc, perhaps in English (e.g. Aerospace Engineering (MSc) at FH Aachen) but better in German (e.g. Munich University of Technology, Munich University of the Federal Armed Forces, University of Stuttgart).
