St. Gallen MBA program feedback and insights?

Hello,

My name is Jorge Campal. I am currently working as an industrial engineer in Spain for a big automotive company in Spain.

In the past year I have carefully reviewed the top MBA programs in the Germanic-speaking Europe (Germany/Austria/Switzerland) and have attended some of their open days (ESMT/Mannheim/Frankfurt School of Finance and Management).

Despite, I still have to get a better insight on the st gallen MBA. What do you think of it?. It is supposed to be better ranked than the above-mentioned ones and the university it belongs to is considered as an “elite” school. However, having read the brochure and various forums all over the internet, I still do not get a clear vision of their programme ( curriculum, electives, if their teachers a good…). What I have mostly read was that the networking it provides is top notch whereas their classes are somewhat average.

P.S: I have a C2 level German and have worked and studied all over Germany so that the language is not a hindrance for me.

The curriculum and electives are listed in the brochure. The youtube channel gives a good sense of the faculty: they need pretty much on par for a German-region school.

Hello Duncan,

thank you for your feedback. I was more concerned about the quality of the teaching as I have not heard much about it on the forums. In addition, would you consider it, overall, above the other top 3 German business schools.

Yes and no. It's certainly the most prestigious school in the German speaking world. But it's an incumbent, public Switzerdeutche institution. Don't expect the local faculty to be inspiring or entertaining, as it would be at a private school like WHU or a state school in a more competitive environment. There is a big gap between HSG and the local universities, so it doesn't need to work hard and can pick candidates who will be very easy to place with its corporate partners.

Honestly, I think even the location selects the students in and out.
Yes and no. It's certainly the most prestigious school in the German speaking world. But it's an incumbent, public Switzerdeutche institution. Thinking about your focus on auto, and naively not thinking of German-speaking Switzerland as a auto industry hub, I would certainly look at German schools rather than HSG.

What are your goals? If they include staying in the auto industry, then yes, Germany sounds like a better option. However, this might be different, depending on where you physically want to be after graduating.
