Colleges to aim for in Europe and US to get into consultancy firm

Hi!

I am 37 years old working as Regional Business Head - Sales & Marketing with a reputed Indian company manufacturing and selling home appliances. I head a region which has annual turnover of around 20 million USD.

I have around 10 years of work experience. I started my carrier as a marketing manager, then was promoted as a product manager, and then as regional business head - sales & marketing.

I did Bachelorship in Business Management with specialization in international marketing, Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Management, and then Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management with specialization in marketing.

I am planning to do MBA from some good college in Europe or US which will help me get into some good consultancy firm, also want to work abroad to get more exposure. My long term goal is to start my own consultancy firm.

Would request you all to please guide what colleges I should aim for? The colleges where I would be the right fit and have good chances of getting admission ( As am old I might not be the right person for them). Colleges where I have good chances of getting a job after the MBA (with the assumption that I would learn the language).

The Sloan Fellows programme at LBS and similar degrees, like the Sloan Fellows program at MIT or the IBEAR MBA, might be a good fit.

I know a person from my industry who did Sloan Fellows program at MIT but did not find any job thought he is quite a brilliant chap. He had to come back to India.

I want to get global exposure and so want to work either in Europe or US. Can I not go for regular MBA programs. How hard it would be to find a job after MBA as I would be 39 years old by then? I will learn the language if I get into some European school.

Between gaining entry and starting there is not enough time for you to become fluent.

The difficulty of finding roles depends on three things:
1. how big a transition you want to make (eg role, country, industry)
2. how well the school can support the transition (eg internships, projects, electives).
3. how focussed and extensive your networking is.

If you want to stay in home appliances and, say, help Whirlpool to export to your region then take a Michigan or Michgan State MBA.... that sounds credible. Maybe USC or UCI and then BSH Home Appliances Corporation? I think you need to research very specific opportunities. Find out what your Sloan Fellow friend did wrong, because Sloan Fellows are very valuable and he must have not spent enough time talking to people who wanted someone like him.
