getting into investment banking

Is there any consensus out there in terms of the best MBA program to get a job in investment banking?

I'm debating on a couple programs. LBS would be nice, since it's in London of course and I'm already based in Bristol, plus it would give me two years and an internship in between, and I would use the internship to work at an I-bank.

Just wondering though whether I should consider branching out.

The other schools I'm thinking about would be New York schools (NYU, Columbia), and then Hong Kong schools (HKUST, mainly.) I would love to be based in Hong Kong, that's one of my favorite cities, and I know HKUST is a good school BUT it scares me that it's only 12 months rather than 2 years.

My background: undergrad in Bus/Econ from a top 10 US school, had a number of extracurriculars and an internship abroad. Landed a job working accounts in a smallish financial services firm and have been here for almost 4 years.

Great suggestion from Duncan. I'd also add that you should look at the networks of school graduates working in places where you want to end up. For example, it looks like Wharton, which places well in IB in general, has a decent sized footprint in the Hong Kong investment firms.

Also maybe look at INSEAD. It's got great connections with this industry.

Problem is I don't know where I want to end up. London or New York both seem like defacto choices, but I'm a bit smitten by Hong Kong. I've read good things about Insead.

Would you imagine that an MBA from this school or from Wharton would give me more options (as least in terms of regions?)

Wharton is a more global school than HKU, but you knew that already. Are you actually trying to ask a different question?

Right, what I was wondering was if I did do a "more global" program like Wharton, would I have more flexibility in where I end up? I'm really unsure about what part of the world I want to be in.

I recommend INSEAD. I live in dubai, and I got some friends working in an I-Banking. INSEAD will get you straight to J.P.Morgan!

Like I mentioned above, I think INSEAD is a great school with good connections with this industry and across many parts of the world.

However, I'm not sure if a JPMorgan job is a sure bet, even with an MBA from the school; that still takes a lot of work, networking, and creating the proper connections. This seems like a solid applicant though, with some experience that the firm would value.

An internship with JPMorgan during the program would certainly go a long way.
