MBA/Masters in Sports Management

Hi Everyone,

I am looking to do MBA/Masters in Sports management Mainly focusing in Football.

I have done some research and have few colleges/Institutes in mind. Need some advise/recommendations in this field.

- University of Liverpool (FIMBA)
- The FBA (Football Business Academy) - Geneva
- EU University

After reading about the FBA, that seems like the best fit for me as it has an internship for 4 months which will give me the relative experience according to my profile mentioned below.

Your suggestions on this would be much appreciated.

My Profile:
Graduate in Computer Applications
4 years of experience in Major IT firms - IBM, TCS, American Express(Currently Employed) in INDIA.

Have been playing football since childhood from society to school to college to corporate, never stopped playing this sport. I am passionate about this sport and have the game sense.
No professional experience in this field though or in Management.
I am giving GMAT to get a background in management and will be applying for colleges soon.

Please let me know what you would recommend for me.

What are your goals? Does the FBA issue a degree? It seems like two guys....

Thanks for the response Duncan.
My goal is to get into the football industry mainly in talent management.
The FBA does issue a master's degree.
I'm not sure how helpful that would be. It just seems like the best fit right now. Can you please advise?

I don't see how the FBA is able to issue a legal masters. I think an accredited masters would be more useful. Look at people in the roles you want. What qualifications and languages do they have, and from which schools?

It's a tough field to break into - there are a lot of people out there who would love to work on the corporate end of a sport they enjoy. They don't hire *that* many people, and from what I've seen an MBA may not even be as advantageous as it is in other fields.

Perhaps a better option would be to do a more general MBA at a ranked business school, and then try to do an internship in a firm or team where you'd like to work. Experience in a corporate sports setting would go a long way to landing you a job.
