MBa vs Masters in Financial Management

Hi. I'm interested in pursuing higher learning in the field of Financial Management. I was wondering which direction is best to take, an MBa specializing in Financial Management or a Masters in Financial Management. I note that the University of Rotterdam has very highly accredited courses in each. Can someone explain to me the advantage of one over the other?

Hi Duncan, I would love to go to work every day advising small and medium businesses on business development in every aspect. Whether those things include preparation of business plans, analysis of financial statements, mergers and strategic acquisitions or simply advising them on the direction they should be looking for continued growth.

That would be my ideal job.

In that case your will be better prepared by an MBA. An MFM will prepare for a role managing assets rather than a typically client-facing consulting role.

There are not many consultants specialised in SMB markets. Probably you will be well advised to work for the consulting wing of a big accounting firm or IT firm and then move from there.
