Profile Review, Poor GPA

Hello Everyone,

Greetings.

I completed my B.Sc. in Physics in 2015. My CGPA is 2.61. Then I moved to the University of Dhaka to have an MBA [Evening Batch]. I am currently in my last semester with my project to be started very soon. My expected CGPA is 3.06. I have completed training on SPSS, and R. Also, I know python programming [not that much though].

I would like to know if I can have an MBA in Finance [or Supply Chain or any other business-related subject] in the USA with this academic background, what are the possibilities, what are the pre-requisite knowledge, what would be the situation in the job market, and etc. Please add from your experience too.

I am eagerly waiting for your inputs as I have little knowledge regarding this.

I don't know how much research you have done. A master of science degree in SCM seems like a good option, if it has STEM status.

I did not do any research at my bachelor level [only a poster during my 1st semester which is like 8-9 years ago]. In MBA, currently have a project with one of the faculties in the department as per regulations for the MBA in Finance degree at the University of Dhaka. Was just called up for it a day ago. So, yet to pick a topic for the project.

I forgot to mention that I have job experience of 1 year and 11 months in 2 companies. One is a Research & Consultancy firm and another is a BPO firm.

What is the pre-requisite knowledge about SCM? Should I do a PGD in SCM in my country, Bangladesh, before applying for it? Also, what is/would be the situation of the job market in the supply chain sector? Can you tell which universities offer good SCM?

Hi Minhaz,

I believe Duncan is referring to research around the the course and it’s prospects in job hunting and not to research/thesis you do during your bachelors and masters.

I hope that will give you a context what Duncan was referring.

I am sorry that I misunderstood.
I actually did not do that much research. Also, confused because of my weak profile with low CGPA.
Can you please help with on what points should I keep track while browsing different university's MBA in SCM? Also, do I need to do PGD in SCM first?

A few suggestions:
- Read about the Stem designation and how it allows you extra OPT time in the USA.
- Reconsider whether the US is the only place you want to work. There are other countries in the developed world with more open migration pathways.

- Think about costs. An MS or MBA in the USA is a large investment. It might be less costly to learn a language of mainland Europe and then take an inexpensive degree in a top university in the EU.
