Chances for a Tier 1 B school with 11 years of work experiences?

Hi Guys,

I am new to GMAT and this board. Reading some previous threads, I found myself in serious need for some expert advices on my particular case. I am planning to take GMAT exam this July and enroll in an MBA program in a tier 1 or 2 b school in 2014. I am eager to have a rough picture of what chances will I have to get addmitted. Here's my brief backgroud:

1> Nationality: China
2> Work Experience: 11 years in the automotive industry in China with a steady path of career development and currently worked as a vehicle program manager.
3> GMAT: to be take this July
4> GPA: 3.5/4, from a top 30 university in China, majoring in English.
5> Career goal: To continue my career development in the automotive industry after MBA graduation, preferrablly for a couple of years in the US, and, then, return to China.

Any comment or advice is greatly appreciated.

It would be very tempting to focus on the Greater Detroit area. Around 100 miles of Detroit you have some strong schools:
Michigan State University (Broad) (MI)
University of Michigan--Dearborn (MI)
University of Detroit Mercy (MI)
Kent State University (OH)
University of Akron (OH)
Wayne State University (MI)
Cleveland State University Monte Ahuja College of Business (OH)
Case Western Reserve University (Weatherhead) (OH)
University of Michigan--Ann Arbor (Ross) (MI)
Bowling Green State University (OH)

Of these, University of Michigan--Ann Arbor is the best school, while Wayne State University has the biggest alumni network. Michigan State University is also well placed.

Ross and schools in the Greater Detroit area might be the obvious choices.

What about Darden and Fuqua for a automotive career? And the chances of me getting admitted with such a profile, e.g. such an old age?

Neither of these schools place a ton of people in the automotive industry.

However, since you're planning on returning to China, eventually, why not consider another approach? Find out which American b-schools are popular with Chinese automotive companies and base some of your decision on that. My guess is that the more highly-ranked the school is, the better perceived it is.
