PS I replied to Jay's question above at http://www.find-mba.com/board/26756/ , where he also asked it. That discussion might also be useful for readers of this thread.

Dear Duncan
A bit of a blast from the past for you!
Does this advice hold true as of today too?
I have offers from Glasgow, Birmingham, Leeds, Liverpool and Aston.
I am torn between Birmingham and Glasgow. I have over 14 years of experience in the Oil&Gas sector for a french MNC. After MBA, I want to enter into a Senior Management role in the Oil&Gas sector or outside. I wish to stay back and find a job within the UK after MBA - so post MBA job opportunity, location, company presence etc. will matter a lot.
Thanks in advance for your response!
Yes, you are getting good advice. Aston isn't expensive: it costs more, but it's much better value for money. Different MBA programmes have very different outcomes. Aston MBA alumni earn an average of $83,286, and Surrey MBAs will earn around $30,000 less. Add on that premium for a 30 year career and the extra fees are the best investment you will ever make.
Take the time, take the GMAT and get into the rest programme you can.

Broadly speaking, yes Birmingham is the best of this but why are you focussing on these schools which don't seem to have much of a base in the oil and gas industry? Take a look at these 'classic' posts:
