I don't think many CIOs or CTOs have taken this path, and I don't recommend it. A PhD positions you for a niche role as a solo contributor. The Cambridge programme is essentially a vanity qualification. You need solid middle management experience to procesd to the board. Focus on richer work experience, not qualifications.
