Hi Guys

Reading a lot on the UK-IRL forums, i decided to post my question pre-mba :)

I have been looking at an MBA, after working 3+ years as an IT professional (networking and server administration plus erp).

I hope to switch to banking IT consultancy but i am confused as to what position to aim for at this moment in time.

I have opted for the above mentioned universities and an MBA (not MSc) so that i can get my hands into strategic management and consultancy courses with a consultancy project at the end ..

I don't mind spending 16months in a course but i would like to be able to do some real business environment projects..What would you guys suggest i do ?

I have started applications to all these universities along with Schulich York Canada (thinking only in terms of migration).

going a little off course here with my choice :

I have short-listed my choices from Lancaster,Warwick,City to Cranfield in that order.

Any one here care to guide a lost soul ?

These are four strong schools. Rank them by average salary to get an idea of how well they feed into consulting firms.

Also, you should look at each program's course content to see what they offer in terms of consultancy curriculum.

I know that at Lancaster, you can do the "consultancy challenge," module where you'll work in a group to learn about how consultants deal with organizations, how they manage risk, and so-forth.

At Warwick you'd do a "management consultancy project," which covers some of the same issues but you'll also have to write a dissertation.

Lancaster's deadline ends today unfortunately..but i am trying to submit my application atleast with all the necessary information and scholarships too.

What other schools would you recommend amongst the top 100 (affordable) b schools for consultancy and for a career-change or more like a career move forward from IT to IT consultancy for banks ?

I gave my first GMAT (after studying in a plane for 13 hours) and got a 520 ..

My next exam is scheduled for 26th May 2012 along with IELTS on 19th May.

I think i can do well in this next test.

All the best for the next exam. but you can only use your GMAT scores if its over 600, otherwise i would suggest to look for the universities accepting applications without GMAT.
Such as:
Birmingham
Aston
Durham
Bradford
Strathclyde
Edinburgh (may ask if your experience and academics are weak )
Have you made any applications to these ones

Got some bad news folks : Warwick rejection letter
They cited 3 years of experience as being too less for their current class of 50 for full-time MBA.
Their avg is 6 years and avg age is 30 of other applicants.

Still awaiting LUMS and DBS results..

Hard luck, but you should have known this before, as its very unlikely that Warwick accept candidate with only 3 years of experience.
I would not recommend for Leeds , however Durham could be a better option.
What was your GMAT score ?

I guess i did not know about the experience criteria. I was looking at their minimum reqmts. and i felt i could be part of such uni's. I guess i should have known the priority is experience.

Lancaster and Durham

I am looking at Rotterdam since i have an early-bird advantage there..The course starts in January 2013.

Basically opting for an MBA to change careers and land into IT consultancy for banking sector etc..
Right now i manage high-end servers and its quite technical..would like myself to manage people rather than execute :) I guess that's where everyone wants to see themselves.

In Dubai, most employers (multinational firms) would require western educated employees.
The term western education would either refer to a US or a UK degree.

I was also looking at Rotman, Rotterdam and Mannheim b-schools..They offer a different experience altogether which makes it a good bet in case you want to migrate...

This makes it all the more confusing to choose a b-school.

What are your thoughts Mamit/Duncan ?

Experience would mostly relate to the atmosphere in and around the campus. Experience in class would relate to the amount of teamwork required for case-studies and projects etc.

I hear that Lancaster has a proper consulting project at the last semester with real companies. It could be in field of Marketing/Finance/HR etc..

I want something where IT consultancy and strategic mgmt can come into play..i guess its too specific a project to be asking for.
